Speed, need more speed!!!
Alright, so I'm just starting to get into Honda's, but I do have to say, i LOVE EM. OK, so once you hit redline, thats it right? I mean, 5th gear and the highest rpm you wanna run is the max speed of the car eh? But what if thats not very fast? Is there any way of changing the gear ratio in the transaxle to get a higher speed? What about 6spd conversions or somethign like that? Is it possible to put a 6spd tranny in a 90 Civ Hatch? I'm thinking it would be easier to change the gear ratio...if any is possible.....all I'm wondering is how peopel get there cars gogin so fast, it's not power, because redline is redline right? it doens't matter how much horsepower is there. Basically, how do I make my car go faster?
D-series powered honda Civics are Geared to go 150-160 MPH
And I doubt your civic has enough power to get up there...so why dont you worry about modifying your engine to make more power so that your car can attain 150MPH first...and then worry about going faster
More power = larger bore + larger stroke + more air + more fuel
Get some

lol..you are one weird guy..seriously. Anyhoo..how do you make your car go faster? build your current motor ie basic bolt ons would be a good start, turbo, or even a motor swap would get you where you want to go.
noobie...
get a chipped ecu and have the govenor and rev limit removed.. you can as fast you want, hope its on a closed course cause thats dangerous.. no need to go that fast.. but back to the answer get the govenor and rev limit removed and you can go to 10k in 5k gear.. good luck getting the car home after the motor blows up..

Alright, so if i'm not mistaken, the redline on a d15b2 is 6800. if i go over this, the engine blows right? so how fast could i go at 6800? i don't know, it just seems wrong that if i want to go crazy fast, that the only answer is to overrev the engine. but 150-160mph eh? it just doesn't seem to work out....i get 100 mph @ about 4500. hmm...maybe that does work out....but still, do i want to take it over 5000? ahh well, you guys know, not me. tell me some more shiz.
well even if you get the govenor and red limiter taken out...why the hell you need to go that fast in 5th? sounds like you have a stock d-series motor with too high of expectations for a stock d-series. going that fast is way too dangerous (especially with stock suspension). why dont you build your d-series motor or get a b-series motor swap so that you wont have to worry about going that fast in 5th. its kids like you that give road racers a bad name.

what the hell does that have to do with capitalism?....never mind.
anyhoo, you really need to learn how a modern day motor works. then learn how to create more power. then learn which motor is best for your needs.
more power = higher speeds @ lower rpms

ok first of all with the d series you can do 110 in third gear. so technically you can do like 200 in a honda. but drag and power limits wont allow that ****. I rather go 1-120 in 10 seconds than be able to do 150 in my car.

Not the most thought out of comments on a forum on which a large majority of the membership is made up of "little rich *********" as you like to put it. And incase you hadn't noticed, one of the reasons hondas are so popular, especially the civic, is cuz you don't need to be a "rich ********" to own and modify one. You really don't sound 28 man.
Anyway, back on topic...
When you say fast, do you mean fast acceleration or fast top speed? You've said twice now about people getting their cars going so fast, but I don't really remember that ever having anything to do with top speed?
Unless you're into speed rather than acceleration, there's no reason to go above 120 in any situation, the fun is getting there quickly, not seeing how fast you can go before your tyres blow and you die
Basically, it's down to modification, modifying the engine to make it more powerful. I would assume that being 28 'nall you'd know the basics of what makes the wheels turn on a car. the internal combustion engine works on air and fuel, the more air and fuel you put in, the bigger the bang, the quicker your wheels turn, the faster you go. It's never quite as simple as that, but that's the general idea. And it's not all about redline, some of the most powerful cars in the world have a redline of less than 6000rpm, the reason VTEC engines have a high redline is cuz you need a high redline to make a lot of power out of a small engine, but it's not a general rule of thumb. Stop thinking redline and start thinking about how you can get more power within the rev range you've got, it's plenty enough.
ok I'm done, now I'm gonna go out in my suped (soup? suped?) up civic and spread capitalism wherever I go

Basically an engine is a self-automated airpump. The more air (while adding the correct amount of fuel) you can move through it, the more power your gonna make.

Someone ban this guy. 1) Use the search function, everything you would ever want to know is in there. 2) Don't insult some of us who are fortunate enough to have the means to modify out car. Go get a better education and a good job so you can roll with us. Thats capitalism, my friend. 3) most mechanics are ********? Good job man, many people on this board are mechanics by trade, and even more by hobby. So just chill, please. Theres a lot of good info on here if you'd just keep the stupid comments to yourself.
