What's so bad news'ish about that? You live in Temecula!!!
j/k. When I first moved out to TX, it took some getting used to the heat (I'm from Oakland, CA). But it's not that bad. There are lots of R owners out here too, and we get together from time to time. I'm in Houston. There are some nice perks to living here (or at least living outside of CA):
1. You can buy fireworks during 4th of July and New Years. And I'm not talking like sparklers and flowers... I'm talking about the real stuff that shoots up into the air and explodes.
2. You can walk along the beaches past midnight without getting arrested.
3. You can legally carry a gun.
4. No state income tax.
5. A "multi-million dollar" home costs $350k here.
6. NHRA sanctioned dragstrip is only 40 miles away, instead of 100 miles, and it's a lot closer to sea level than LACR.
7. We can generate our own damn electricity.
8. Premium 93 octane gas.
9. Premium 93 octane gas that's $1.45 a gallon (Chevron station near me, as of 9/27/01)
10. The big CPL tournaments for Quake and Counterstrike are held in Dallas!!! w00t!

Hey now, I love Whataburger. You must be on crack if you don't like it.
Compared to AZ, I hate Texas. However, it is much better than Cali (IMHO). Of course, that all depends on whether you're conservative or liberal.
The import crowd is alive and well here. Especially down in Houston. Seems almost every weekend I hear on some of my email lists that the peeps in Houston are up to something.
On the whole, Texas is fine. Much more freedom (and car laws that are much easier to get along with...emissions? what emissions?
) and the cops don't pull you over because your car doesn't "look stock". In fact, I have yet to be pulled over (knocks heavily on wood) in my R, for any reason, though god knows the cops do so love to hammer me with Radar the moment they see the color.
IM me if you want, I'll be happy to answer any questions you have about TX.
Viva la Whataburger!!!
[edit] I just found Bryan on the map. It is right next to College Station, which if I recall houses at least on major University - advantage, clubs and bars. A further advantage is that it is fairly close to Houston. A short hour/hour and a half drive, meaning you could party with a bunch of Rs at will. [/edit]

Depends heavily on your tastes.
If you like fake women (lotsa boob work, bleached hair, etc) then this is the place for you.
There are a good number of just flat out great looking women though....just seems that they all are married or in the process of....

WinglessR would agree with me here, but Road racing at Texas World Speedway. We plan to make many trips there...and the WOMEN!!! Right near College Station!!! Whoohoo...
Texas = LOOONG stretches of flat, straight, level roadways with NO COPS!!!!
Seriously though, the cops are pretty cool down here. Saw a really riced out civic with the 5 foot wing and quad fart exhaust, clear just about every damn lens on the car. DEFINATELY not street legal. He was in the front line at a light, right next to a cop. Light turns green and he burns out really bad taking off. Cop didn't do a thing. Didn't even pull him over for equipment violations although you could tell just from the sound that it wasn't street legal.

are the people cool or are they dicks like most people in cali
Yup, Bryan is right by college station. College Station is basically Texas A&M, the whole city worships this school. Great Recreational Center. Texas World Speedway is just a short drive from college station, I'm sure your R would love that. Only time I ever worry about cops on highways here is on the way To Austin from Houston when you pass by La Grange(Sp?), cops over there are very strict. Speeds go from 70 on the highway, then suddently to 35 for about two miles through their city and back to 70. You'll like it here, it's hot, that's the bad part. Actually, that can be good also, women wear very little clothes in the summer time, especially on Campuses!!!
Texas here i come

Another thing I've noticed is that the people of TX are really proud of their state. You're likely to see neon signs shaped like the state of TX in bars and resteraunts wherever you go. How often do you see that in CA? I don't remember really. You'll also get to learn some TX songs when you go to a ball game: "The stars at night are big and bright.... Deep in the heart of Texas!"
Oh yeah, you should start getting used to addressing everybody as "Sir" or "Ma'am". It's weird, but it's pretty common out here, though not a requirement. Uhm... what else. If you like sushi, you're going to be disappointed. I haven't found a really good sushi place out here at all. In CA you can't swing a cane twice without hitting a sushi resteraunt. On the flipside of that is that TX has hella BBQ resteraunts if you're into that. Also since we're so close to LA (that's Louisianna, not Los Angeles) we enjoy a lot of the Cajun cuisine. If you've never had crawfish (don't call them "crayfish" or "crawdads"), you're missing out! Those things ownz0rz! They're in season from spring to the end of summer.
That's about it. If you have any other Q's, I'm sure I or another TX ITR member can help you out.
Bad news????
Texas is great. Whataburger rules also
I want to move to Texas!!
People are friendly, they serve beer at the Western Warehouse..hehehe Lots to do.
The Pho there is excelent. Last time I was there, I was sitting in a restaurant eating breakfast with my girl in Dallas, just hours before my plane was to leave. My girl and I had this same feeling of sadness because we were leaving, and a feelin of somethig telling us not to leave, like Texas wanted us to stay or something, it was weird. I didnt want to come back to Chicago. Hopefully by next year I will be moving to Texas. I can't wait, Texas is a great state. "DONT MESS WITH TEXAS"!!!
