it allowed us to put the rollbar in an ideal position for a 6' + driver and still bring the door bars in at the same time.

Whats up with the square tube? Are you doing s a SCCA cage? All tubes are same size and diameter in the Show room stock rules I thought, and the spec Miata rules are based off them. How did you weld 360 degrees around all those joints? Very different!
What about door bars, SS rules in GCR and SM rules say door bars to be mounted to front and rear hoops, I do not think the extra what ever you call it can be considered the rear hoop. You could be leaving your self in a sticky situation. Your local tech may pass it, but a competitor may protest.

I think you should be careful saying that. IT rules, which is what I thought SM was suppose to be built to at least in the SE, "any number of additional reinforcing bars are permitted within the structure of the cage, providing they meet the minimum tubing size per GCR" . They don't have to be the same, but there is a spec.

Item 1. Effective 1/1/04. Insert as GCR Section 17.1.9. renumber subsequent sections of 17.1. (This makes a nationwide set of rules for Spec Miata. This will give consistency of rules across the county while still allowing for Divisions to serve their members' needs within their Regional programs.)
SPEC MIATA (SM)
17.1.9. Spec Miata Class (SM) (Regional Class Only): These specifications are part of the SCCA General Competition Rules (GCR) and all automobiles shall conform to GCR Section 17., Automobiles
Purpose and Intent
The Spec Miata (SM) class is intended to provide the membership with the opportunity to compete in low cost cars with limited modifications, suitable for racing competition. It is intended to encourage low cost, entry level, production car based competition in SCCA. Further, the rules are intentionally designed to be more conservative than the Improved Touring class, but with equivalent safety standards. The Spec Miata class will be reviewed on a yearly basis for participation. If the class participation drops below a reasonable level, the cars will be assimilated into the appropriate Improved Touring class. These rules are intended to SUPPLEMENT those of the Showroom Stock Category Specification (SSCS). The Spec Miata class shall strictly follow the SSCS except for modifications permitted by these rules. Unless specifically mentioned or approved in these rules, no additional modifications may be made..
a. Roll cages shall meet all requirements of GCR Section 18., requirements for Showroom Stock cage configuration, tubing size, and material.
1. Regardless of car weight, all Spec Miata autos may be constructed to the requirements for a 2095-pound car.
