Default For anyone running on the Yokahama es100

Hey guys,

I did a search buy couldn't find anything. I have a 2001 integ with Bridgestone re750s, and they are picking up gravel from the road like mad. It doesn't help that my neighborhood has a gravel road, so I have to drive through it everyday. I even pick up gravel into the brake drums, and it creates a horrible screech. Well my question is, I may be buying new tires, and was wondering if the yoks pick up alot of road gravel? Should I buy a tire thats not sticky? Or should I just go back to a stock size tire? I currently have 205-50-15. Thanks for any input.

Dont have any experience with them, but they probably will be my next set of tires. There's a couple of threads on those tires in here.

What car do you have? Most Integras have 4-wheel disc, no brake drums.

Most any tire is going to pick up gravel while the tread depth is still deep. But even with my worn ES100's, when I drive on a road w/ debris (like by my g/f's house) I can hear it picking up little pebbles and stuff and throwing them up into the fenderwells.

im ridin on some yokos and i think that they really dont pick up much gravel. Just slow down when ur driving on loosed out gravel roads to prevent pickin and kickin up gravel.

No.

I have them in the stock 195/55-15 size on my '94 GS-R and the sidewalls look very normal, no bulging. Maybe it bulges if you get a size that is too wide for the wheels?

It's an awesome tire for the money, excellent handling, excellent dry and wet traction, lasts a long time. Check out the tests on the Tire Rack website.

hahaha that's pretty funny

ES100's are pretty stiff in the sidewall department. Their sidewalls are MUCH stiffer than the Nankang EX500's I used to have (both 205/50-15).

Well you're definitely not getting gravel into brake drums because you don't have any brake drums.

What size gravel are we talking about here? Like I said, mine are pretty worn, but it still picks up and throws the tiny gravel pieces (like the stuff that's barely larger than grains of sand). As for gravel getting stuck between tread blocks, that doesn't really happen anymore.

the sidewals protrude out, but they are designed for that. They act like a rim saver in case you curb your rim. they will help a little if you are going slow. all the es100's are like that in all sizes. and yes running them a little oversized wil bulge them out, but that is true of all tires.

Hey there,

Actually my car is picking up tiny rocks in the ground...rocks and pebbles..its getting really annoying because I have to drive extra slow in my neighborhood.

Thanks

IMO the es100's aren't that sticky. They will pick up small debris off the road, but not much of it. My previous tires (Bridgestone Potenza RE710 Kai) were MUCH stickier and picked up more debris, but I never had any problems related to that.

Overall I'm not impressed with the es100's. I guess for the price I can't really ask for much more though. The are no where near sticky enough, tread patch isn't large enough and the sidewall is not stiff enough. But from the research I did I gather that they are probably the best all around tire for the price (at least for 15"). But still, if you can I'd highly recommend you spend more and get a better tire, like the upper level potenzas. From my experience they will out perform the es100's in EVERY aspect except for price.

I also have the ES100's. I do think that they are a good tire, I wish I still had my Azenis though.

I have noticed that when they cinder the roads, there is not much more than the usual rocks and pebbles that get picked up. They do grab the ruts (not snow) in the road and make driving a bit of a pain in the ***.
