Default Clutch question

I have changed the TPS. The car feels more powerful, but I don't think that was the problem. When I put the car in gear and letoff the clutch slowly, the car starts to stumble or chatter as if the clutch is trying to grab, or something. Ijust had the clutch replaced with a clutch master stage II about 4 months ago. The directions said that the flywheel needed to be resurfaced, but was never done. Do you think this could of been my problem all along?

How many miles were on the original flywheel before the clutch was installed? It could definately be a problem... if it was not resurfaced then it could be a very rough and uneven surface that your clutch disk is pressing against. This can cause harsh engagement/disengagement, premature clutch failure, & slipping.

Can the clutch still be reused?

It's kind of hard to tell... I would think it would still be good after only four months though. Have them look at it if you do decide to change the flywheel.

Hmm, I ad always though that it was a bad motor mount, this post makes me think that I might have a rough enguaging clutch. but, it only chaters/shakes the car when its cold and Im just starting out, and my rpm's are below 2000. I only have 130K though.
Like ,it literally feels like the engine is shaking vigorously back and forth in the engine bay. Just lugging? but all the way up to 2000rpm? lugging!?? until its warm that is.

That is exactly what I am feeling so I persume that my clutch system is an issue.

To see if it's clutch vs. engine mounts, try a clutch-engaged rolling start. Start off in first gear, leave the clutch completely engaged (foot OFF the pedal). At maybe 1700 or 2000 rpm, that's not much more than walking speed. Then floor it. If it vibrates, then you know it isn't the clutch, because the clutch isn't sliding.

Thanks Jimblake, Ill try it.

Abeaujuin, does your engine literally feel as if its thrashing about under the hood?? I get the mental picture of it shaking like mad at least an inch forward and back from resting position. THats just mental image though. I have no idea if it really ismoving that much it just feels like that when it shakes.

Not really, I don't think my engine is moving around. I have catter in the clutch. The flywheel was never reservice.

Clutch chatter, loose engine mounts, engine misfires, they all FEEL different in subtle ways. I can't tell from here without driving driving your cars, but it kinda sounds like SOHCMAN & abeaujuin don't have the same problem.

If it's loose engine mounts, you could probably grab the valve cover & shake the engine. Look/listen for klunking at the mounts.
