Every time i race unless its at the track when i launch im in VTEC but then it bogs down out of VTEC and its kickin my ***.. If i could keep it in VTEC i would win 80% of my loses...How the hell do i get around this....ive tried to just spin them through but it still bogs down!!!HELP!!!

 

Turn your VTEC controller to a lower setting so it will hang on there long enough.

Do not dump the clutch, slip it and ride it out until you get traction. Sure it hard on the clutch but the 60 fts drp. Hold the E-brake up while revving with the car at its "want to go" state.

 

Yeah, ride the clutch a little on the launch.

you could also learn to feather the gas to control tire spin rather than slip the clutch. your clutch will love you for this.

 

How do you mean? just get on and off of it a couple times real quick?

 

He is saying to induce wheels spin, and then feather the throttle, to help find that point where traction is building, but still spins so that u don't bog out. I think that is the method you are trying already, but aren't having any sucess.

If you are dropping the clutch "in vtec" then you shouldn't have any problems with bogging the car out, i used to have a b16 in my 99 SI and i know what its like with the bog out problems. You can try riding the clutch out, but thats hard on the clutch, but gaurentees good launches w/ some practice, but u really got to ride the clutch hard, I just can't bring myself to do it very much.

I slip the clutch out quickly (quickly enough not to induce wheelhop) and then try to feather the gas to where i can feel the car pulling forward, but at the same time the wheels still spin. You have to be able to feel how hard to give it gas, you want to have the wheels spin less and less and gain more and more traction, then you should be around 6,500 or higher and the wheels will have quit spiining and your off and ready to shift fairly quickly into second. It takes alot of practice, and its also alot easier to do on the street, so that wont help ya much, you can practice on a backroad or something to get the feel then go to the track and try again.

When you slip the clutch, yes be sure to feather the gas! I left this important step out. You have to work the two together for the best traction.

 

how much time do you spend at the track i kow here its like ten twenty dollars for as many runs as you have gas for. Launching is an art man it takes a while. What rpm are you launching at?

 

Same here!! I launch around 5500....

 

I am there 5 to 10 hrs a week. Pretty much when they are open. It takes alot of time to get the hang of it, but once you do the times drop.

 

5500 with slicks or street tire?

 

5500 slip a bit then drop.... seems to work best it spins to 6k then catches traction stick with a full face clutch its easier to launch exedy race clutch or poopmasters

id feather the gas. i had the same problem you had along time ago. when i had b16 in my 00si coupe i use to always launch at like 4500-5300, id always get told why i launched so high. but if i launched any lower...it would just bog wat flywheel are you usin just curious

You must be somewhat ocnfused ont he topic huh? Its a really ahrd topic to explain because everyones a different driver with a different car.
Heres what I do and sounds like some people do on the board. (I'll try to explain the best I can)

Practice makes perfect no doubt.
Late at night find some deserted straight leveled and clean road.
Hold the clutch down all the way.
With your right foot hold it to 5500rpm and slowly lift the clutch foot off the clutch.
After lifting high enough your car will start moving foward. STOP
That point right before your car starts to move foward is your engagement point; you have to get to know that feeling.
Keep doing this untill you can find it without concentrating on finding it, almost like now it's an instinct.
Once you know the engagement point you can now feather the gas and lift your clutch foot with a steady pace and without bogging.
Although you might spin out slightly because nitto450s suck.
I suggest getting Flaken Azenis or Yokohama ES100s those are pretty cheap tires.

Keep at it and you will start to see races.
The key is when to feather the gas and the pace to lift your left foot off the clutch pedal.
Once you have both of them down like the back of your hand you will start winning more radces.

Pretty good write up. When I launch Im generally in Vtec almosy right off the line...havent tried this at the track yet though. Last year with the same set-up I couldn't get a good launch to save my life but I have been practicing

Thats actually the boring part of drag racing a semi-fast car. After the 60 ft mark it gets a little boring.
