Going from 1.6 SOHC turbo to 1.8 DOHC turbo..
Okay, I have a few questions and basically want to explain my situation and see what I will be working with here.
I have a 94 si currently with a 1.5L bottom end(1.6 blew up when my feed line arced the alternator and put a hole in it) with the 1.6 vtec head. I have the greddy 15g turbo kit with FMIC on it. The car pulls decent, better then stock, but not quite what I'd like. I drive the car a lot but do have another car so it isn't needed every day.
I have an oppurtunity to get a LS long block for a very cheap price with 30,000 miles on it. It is from a wrecked LS that was sent to a friends fathers junkyard so I know it does have low miles, and the engine appears to be mint. I haven't researched everything I will need for the swap yet, but I know I need a tranny, mounts, axles(?), etc.
After I check the engine out as long as it appears to be good, I'm not going to build it yet. What compression are the LS blocks? About how much horsepower can they handle? I have unlimited access to the dyno at my shop so tuning is no problem. Basically I am looking for a RELIABLE car that could be daily driven(even though it won't be driven EVERY day).
Because I have the greddy kit on there now I would like to keep most of that hardware for now if possible. I will most definetly be looking to upgrade it in the future, but probably not until next summer. With that in mind, will I be able to use all the piping and such from the kit? If I buy a bseries greddy manifold, will the turbo and piping still fit? What kind of flange is on the greddy turbo? If it is say a t3 I'd probably guy a nicer manifold then the greddy (inline for example).
as for fuel, right now I am using stock injectors, the greddy blue box to richin in up, and a afc to lean it out and fine tune. I do have a set of almost brand new 450 injectors and a resistor box that would be installed with the new engine, as far as I know that should be a sufficiant amount of fuel. I also have a new walbro 255 pump that I need to put in.
for the turbo, I have a spare 15g that needs to be rebuilt. would it be wise to have that rebuilt to a 18g turbo? I would imagine the ls motor would be able to handle that turbo much better then my stock motor would be able to. How much boost do you think I'd be able to run saftley with it tuned?
So if anyone has any imput on my situation I'd love to hear it. Also if you can answer any other questions that were asked I'd love to hear those as well. I am hoping someone has done something simliar to this so they would have a good idea of what will work and what won't. If you need any other info, please feel free to ask. Thanks..

No, I don't want to do that. In fact, I am probably going to be using a different turb o as I was told the 15g can't be rebuilt into an 18g, so I am going to get a different turbo. Now comes the question of which turbo would be good for my setup? a stock ls motor.. I don't want something huge.. I am probably going to make a few calls today to a couple turbo companies we use and see what they'd recommend.
Also what bseries transmission would be the best for a turbo car? Since I ahve to buy it seperatly I could use any of them. Thanks!
