My friend owns a smog shop, can I tune on his smog machine?
Smog places in california now require you to smog your car with ROLLERS. They look somewhat like a dyno. The rollers add a load to your car, making your motor run like it had some load on it, giving the smog machine a more real world smog reading.
My question is can I stick that exhaust thing into my downpipe and tune my air fuel ratio on his smog machine?
Or is that tail pipe sniffer not accurate?

well how much power u think your gonna put out? I know that most of those smog dyno's only go up to like 200whp. Not sure about there sniffer. But u can help me pass my smog test
Depending on how much power you're making, the smog dynos only handle 150hp/100mph(not sure about the mph). Also, it's pretty hard to keep the car from going sideways at WOT on those small rollers.
if they only handle like 150HP then how can they keep up with like corvette or v8 trucks.. hell both my parnets have over 250HP motors.. F150 Triton V8 5.4L, and a GME Envoy Vortec Inline 6 its pushing 280HP..
They should be able to handle your Honda man
but i dun no, i guess if it has a wideband o2 then yeah if you know how to tune go for it, just for safety, add a couple more chains to hold the car down

I think they're talking about WOT, which is never reached when a vehicle is being inspected.

You shouldn't run it on teh emissions dyno over 30mph it makes a god aweful wailing sound it is not like a regular dyno, if you go over the RPM range that is recomended it starts flashing bright red saying violation, All you will do is break machine. There was a big problem back when they first came out from what i have been told people running cars on them like they were on a real dyno and breaking them. So you can break a 40k+ machine if you want but i woudn't recomend it.
We have a machine at my school and I saw the instructor let a couple of Camaro's run WOT on it- not sure how accurate it was though- He pulled 270/wheels, but claimed he hit 320/wheels the week prior
Also, the SMOG test is typically run at controlled speeds- 25mph- very light throttle, so a Vette or Viper wouldn't break it, anyways. And the sniffer is the same 1 alot of shops use to gauge the A/F, as well.
