I was thinking about my stock tach the other day when I realized that once it goes past 8,400rpms I'm pretty much playing a guessing game to when my car is going to hit the rev limiter, especially with my raised rev limiter. The reason is because once our tachs reach that point the guage face becomes solid red with no individual slash marks. I was thinking about modifying the face somehow to actually have slash marks past 8,400rpm and to remove the solid red.
Take the spoon cluster for instance
It has slashes all the way to 11k, but I'm not spending that much for a guage cluster. I'm also am not buying some giant autometer tach to mount on my dash.
I had the idea of getting another backing face and splicing a section with the white marks and just pasteing it at 8,400rpm to extend the slash marks. However I can't see myself doing this without it looking like crap. Any ideas?

what he said. I never look at the tach anymore, just listen to the motor and watch for my CEL to flash

leave the factory cluster alone and get the pivot digi tach, it's small (size of a boost controller/turbo timer) dead accurate, and comes with almost a pin needle sized shift light that only the diver can see if it's mounted straight. i love mine
It looks like the red section on the stock tach is just a sticker. Maybe the marks continue and are just covered up? If that's the case, then you can just cut the sticker to have whatever redline you want.

exactly...i have an Autometer shift light hidden in my center heat duct.you can't even tell it's there, but it's still very visible when lit, even on the brightest day.
i also saw a guy on here...can't remember who(i know that's a lot of help),think it was Vtecvoodoo, but i can't find a pic of it.maybe somebody can help with a pic.he made a "pointer" out of a piece of vinyl and stuck it on the clear bezel of his cluster, where his true redline was.looked liek it would work pretty good.you could also do it directly on the tach face;plus it's removable,so no permanent changes.in a quick glance, you should be able to easily see the relation of the tach needle to the pointer.
BTW-the stock tach on hondas is horrible!usually a few hundred RPMs off.i would definately suggest an independent shift light,as it is working off a true RPM reading;not ot mention it is much more noticable than haveing to glance at the tach.

^ I'd love to get that if I could actually differentiate between the red & green.
