anybody have experience painting helmets? this sounds like a sunday diy project to produce something truly hideous yet unique

post pictures of your favorite helmet designs whether your own or professionals from f1, wrc, cart, etc.

i saw catch22 was thinking of painting helmets. what's your favorite helmet look?

 

gonna get mine painted like my head, people will think there is a big headed freak w/o a helmet inside

 

Just paint yours purple and that should sufice...

Most club racers won't have the extra $$ for a painted lid. Or if they do, they would spend it on track time, tires or spare parts.

 

I've always liked Butch Leitzinger's helmet design....



I'd do something similar, buy a Black helmet and put on white striping...simple yet effective.

 

I don't have a whole lot of experience with automotive helmets but I've had a couple hockey masks painted. Find someone who's good with an airbrush. Or learn it yourself ... it's not too hard. The most important thing is the clearcoat. It's gotta be heavy duty or the paint's gonna come right off.

Maybe for a racing helmet it doesn't need to be that heavy duty ... on second thought ... racers also have large chunks of rubber flying at thier head at 90+mph. Just not quite as often (hopefully.)

 

keep your car neat and clean by slapping all of your sponsor stickers on your helmet!
