Need help with purchase of 1999 Civic Si
I have a friend that is about to purchase a 99 Si. He is worried about problems since it was in an accident where the front bumper, fender, and hood were replaced. He's gettin a good deal on the price, but he doesn't want it to go bad. Any advice on ways to check for problems? or problems to look for?? Carfax checks out good. Thanks.
best thing i can think of is get a mechanic to go with you, costs around $100.00 and he will tell you and the seller everything that is wrong with it. If you dont want him to tell you both he can jus tell you if its worth the price and if there is anything major that si wrong with it. make sure the mechanic is ASE certified. thats the best advice i give you. Cheap price in the logn run. godluck, keep us posted!
Have a mechanic specifally check? What parts the engine and compression?
He took it to a place that specializes in Hondas and they took it for a test drive and looked under the hood. Took about 5 mins but not that thorough. The mechanic did state that it pulls left and "Needs an alignment (at least)"

how many miles have been put on it since the accident? if it's a decent amount, listen and look for bushing/bearing wear that would indicate some frame bending. also, find out who did the repairs and ask them about the extent of the damage. i'd stay away from any cars with frame damage, repaired or not.
