Autox Wheels/Tires Question
I plan on starting to Autocross this spring and summer, I drive a 97 del sol. I'll probably be running in G or F class due to the mods I have though.
I was wondering what wheel/tire combo I should use. I am looking at Nippon F2's right now.
Is a 15 or a 16 inch wheel better?
What tires are best for a 15? 16?
Thanks!
(any other input would be great too...)

I wont assume that because you said "I plan on starting to Autocross this spring and summer" which means you havent done any autocrossing yet, and you need to work on developing the driver instead of futzing with the car.

just because he hasn't cone raced doesn't mean he's not a good driver
I always say the smaller the wheel/tire combo the better...quicker final drive and quicker acceleration.
You want a stretable tire like the Azenis, or an R compound?

RJ is right though. Start autocrossing with whatever you have for about 1-2 years before you change anything. You'll learn a lot. For example (assuming you go by SCCA rules) mods will not bump you up from H-stock into G or F. Mods will move you into street prepared, prepared, modified, or steet modified classes.
Then the aswer to your question depends on what class you're running in. In Stock class you have to keep the same size rim as stock. In Street prepared the hot setup is 13"X8" rims with hoosiers wrapped on them. And then prepared has it's own set of rules on tires sizes. Certain classes also only allow street legal tires, and som allow true race slicks. And so on.... So you see, it's not a simple answer. And we're not trying to bee ********, but I understand it may seem that way. just race what you bring, then you'll understand.

Seriously... these guys are all right... leave it alone.
Take it from someone who fought off the urge to buy a whole bunch of crap.I left it alone for a year and a half and just learned how to drive on street wheels and a mostly stock suspension (added strut tower bars and a bigger rear sway bar)... Its worth the initial frustration, cursing the body roll and understeer because the car won't be there to bail you out. It forces you to know how to get out of trouble and you'll become faster from it later. As you get better start upgrading the car. I'd say give it the whole year without any major alterations to the car.
But the answer from what you're looking for is 15". Smaller is faster.
