How do i check if a motor is legit?
i got a 95 gsr block, there is no vin tags on the motor, i do not think they came with them in 95. how else can i check to see if this motor is legit?
thank you
thank you
In '95 they didn't come with a VIN plate. Look for the block serial # - stamped into the block near the transmission, below where it says 'B18C1'. Dealer or cops can probably look up that # to see if it's stolen.

just call up the police station and tell them you have a block casting number to run they'll reffer you to one dept. or another you'll be put on hold for about three or four years then they'll probably want to charge you for checking it, but you'll have peace of mind, if you can get the VIN that it belongs to then you can CARFAX it too.
Why didn't you check it first?
Did you get information on the person selling it? Did you get his drivers license number? Did you get a bill of sale?

call your local hiway patrol, they'll run it through for you for free. Only problem is most will want you to bring it there personally and if it stolen THEY keep it and you get to go back home
emptyhanded. I'm sure they'll ask where you got it from and stuff like that too. Here's a tip try different cities until you get one that will do over phone. Call from payphone or something and hang up if it's not legit
then go after whoever sold it to u...lol!

Don't sand down the ID number!!
If the police happen to check for the number and it's not there, they will impound the car.
The Dart blocks do not have the "pad" where the ID is stamped, so you couldn't say that it's a dart block.
To put it bluntly, it seems like you bought it from a questionable source and don't want to face the reality of it. If it's stolen, then you have just subsidized a thief! Go to the police and lay it all out. If it's clean, then you can quit worrying about it. If it's stolen, then hopefully it will put the police on to the thief. In that case, you have learned a lesson that costs you the $700.
