might sound paranoid, but i have heard of some people that had their stuff stolen, and found out later that it was a friend of an installer or of the shop it was done at, and i was planning on upgrading to a better alarm and this time i want some other stuff done as well, but i was thinking that when i go and pay then i am just going to be giving them my address and phone number so they can put it into the computer, so then they know where i live
i don't have a gaudy car or anything at all, it looks stock, but i am just being cautious, cause i have had things happen to me, such as someone i thought was a friend one time turned on me and broke into my place when he knew i was at work, and cleaned me out totally, and later him and a friend broke into my car, but they caught them, but basically things like that have made me not trust many people.
so, what would you do to make sure nobody turns on you from a shop? would you just give a different address? and pay cash? i have a credit card but it would show my addrress info.
and i know your thinking "wow, this guy is paranoid", and your right, i am pretty much a paranoid person in general about things, but to me it seems weird that you would pay all this money and have a good install with hidden components and backup batteries, central locking etc.... and not to think that the person that knows best how to disable everything would be the person who installed it in the first place!, and i just don't want them seeing my address and information
sorry for a sort of stupid post, i am at work, and ran out of stuff to do for the moment.
no, but really how can i trust them? i just like my car thats all, and want to keep it

If you're that paranoid, have your stuff installed far far away from where you live. Make sure any personal documents aren't in the car. And if you're THAT paranoid, switch plates right before you enter the shop.
Other than that, the first mod i'm doing to my car (after the last one was stolen
) is the alarm. That way, they're fixing up a bone stock car. There's not much to steal from something damn near 100% factory.

since the creditcard scans and shows your address, maybe i can pay cash, and also just give a different address, plus take documents out of glovebox etc...
it just seems like the person who can break in your car the best no matter what you have on it is the actual person that installed it, works at the shop, or friends of the shop, and i am just being cautious, even know it sounds stupid.
but then again, if they were going to track down a customer's car or give a thug friend of their's a "tip-off" to where your address is, then i guess they would probably pick a bmw or something better than a crx, lol.
you also hear of people getting stuff jacked on their car from people that knew people that work at performance shops, so just shops in general i don't know who to trust, guess i just gotta get it done, and not be so damn paranoid

i've heard of only 1 person pull the scam your talking about. but that was for a large amount of stuff. i would just try to find a good shop that has a reputation for being honest. there out there. just ask around. even talk to dealerships....find out who they use to install there stuff.
