Late introduction
I have been lurking here for awhile, throwing my worthless cents in here and there but haven't done the formal intro so here we go...
I just finished my 1st year of autox with the Boston Chapter BMWCCA in my Integra GSR (DSP). Not the best choice of class to start off in I know but the stuff that was one the car wasn't coming off so I had to run what I had. My goals for the season were to learn as much as I could but I was not prepared for the full on addiction that has ensued. I have been reading, researching and planning for next season in hope of improving my driving skills and having fun and if I can be a little more competitive than that's good too.
As far as the car is concerned I have a few ideas for what I want to do next season and prepare my budget accordingly. Right now I am using Kumho 712's (205/50) on stock GSR wheels and would really like to switch to Azenis. I was thinking of 16x7 Kosei K1's and 215/45 Azenis. Good/bad idea for a 2nd year autox driver?
I was having a bit of a problem with my stock seats/belts holding me in place last year so I'de like to remedy this. I have been reading posts here like mad trying to find an option and couldn't find a direct answer to my issues. I would like to use a 4-pt restraint and use the rear strut tower bar as the anchor which would retain a safe angle but I am sure I need to get new seats to do that, I can't see how a 4-pt will work with a stock seat (Well, I could run the harness between the metal posts of the headrest but that doesn't seem like a good idea). Thoughts/suggestions on what I can do? Must I buy new seats as well?
That's it for the car, and for the driver I have attended the BMWCCA Advanced driving school at NHIS and the Autocross school that they offer as well. Hopefully this year I will attend the Evolution school and with a season and a half of seat time I should be able to absorb the information a little more effectively, I hope so at least as it's surely not cheap but money well spent from what I hear. Other than that I am looking forward to more seat time, I can't wait.
Cheers,
Sean

Reminds me of when I first started autocrossing.
1. Don't go with 16s! The GSR 2nd gear is way to tall for autocrossing and 16s are just going to make that worse. Ideally 13s with race rubber would be good but if you're going with Azenis then I would go with 15x7 (7.5 if you can find some).
You can use a 4-pt harness with the stock GSR seats. If you have leather seats you can switch to cloth seats to gain a little head room and reduce the amount of sliding.

A good cheap fix for the stock seatbelt is to shift your seat back say 2-4 clicks from where you want to drive, then yank the seatbelt so it locks in place. Pull your seat back forward and you'll be pinned between the locked belt and seat. That works pretty well, though you might find you get some bruises on your collarbone from getting thrown into the belt during autocross. Might want to get a cheapo seatbelt pad if you plan to do that a lot or bruise easily.
The best bang for your bucks would be to do the Evolution school.
If you have leather seats you can cut a piece of tool box liner and drape it over your seat. It will cut down on the sliding some.

Speaking of seatbelt solutions, the CG-Lock is about to start selling too:

I second the recommendation for Evo school.
