How rare are these seats?

Very rare from my understanding. I remember reading a rumor that they put them in UK models to get rid of 'em.

i used to have a set on my car, but it's gone after it recover from stolen

Here's some pics of mine.

OEM Honda del Sol seats from my first 97 VTEC. It was one of the last 500 imported into the US.

 

Jeezus those are beautiful. I think those seats, along with the full black interior, bring out a kind of subtle sexiness from the Del Sol.

 

Mine actually havethe red strip so not sure if they are oem now!!!

 

Those are nice seats. My '96 civic EX has OEM leather seats. Love them!

Tried a search on the internet a wile back ago looking for OEM leather seats for any honda, never could find anything. Well anyone selling good mint condition seats anyways.

Those pics do not look to be of real O.E leather seats.

What you've got there seems to be some sort of reskin from a custom upholstry shop.

Before anyone jumps my ****, understand that many times Honda DEALERS will have work like that done on cars for customers who request it, and that I'm saying that I highly doubt that they came from the Honda FACTORY like that.

I used to work for a Honda dealer and they did a lot of leather adding through good upholstry shops to many different cars. They also added very nice O.E-looking power moonroofs to cars that normally did not have them too.

the leather on those seats also does not look anything like the real Honda O.e leather seats found in any other models. They rarely add those puffy inserts in the middle of the seat on the seat back near the headrest, and they rarely come in a true BLACK as pictured.

Bottom line?

Looks like a DEALER installed option, not a FACTORY one.

 

there was a black 97 DOHC vtec for sale in my city that had black leather seats. It was going for 11k back then though so i couldn't buy it ( 2000 )

They do have an OEM tag on the inside of the cover, which I've never taken a picture of because I never thought it to be an issue.

Perhaps I'll run to storage and snap one or two of them just to make proof.

I'm well aware that some dealerships do go aftermarket, even my dealership Wilde Honda (shameless plug ) uses a specialty shop for some of it's customer leather interiors.

I have seen these exact seats in two other 97 del Sol VTECs that were also within that last 500 in the production line brought to the states, so I really haven't doubted this as the case, although I have no physical printed proof from Honda that was ever something that was done.

Maybe I'll check into it, I don't wanna be the guy saying it's legit when it's not!
