Default Horns + Art Series + Alpine PXA-H700 = BIG GRIN

So, stage one of my install is complete:

-deadened the whole car (minus trunk)
-rewired the magic 3
-ran 0/1 to the trunk
-rewired the doors with 12ga (no mean feat)
-installed some CX62 midbasses from Image Dynamics in the doors
-installed my CD1pro Mini Horns
-put an Alpine 7840 and the H700 in the dash
-rigged two PPI amps in the trunk - A100 and an A200

My thoughts -

Good god, it's nice to have a system again....although it's only a part of the way there....it's so nice.

The H700 is a great piece...if anyone really wants a comp level signal processor that works with ANY headunit...this is definitely a great option. More flexibility then I could ever need (I think )

This system is ear bleeding loud and SUPER clean at that level. The horns are getting.....ready.....12.5w each from that little A100 and the mids are only at 100w each from the A200. The horns are SUPER loud and CLEAN as could be with just that little power....

Needless to say I'm stoked. I just can't wait for phase two.

Sub(s) hooked up to an A600 - with 600w x 1 @ 4 ohm mono...it's either a single IDMAX or a pair of IDQ12v2's...still undecided.

Phase 3 will add my CX52's to the kicks and then I'll replace the CX's in the doors with IDQ62's (I have a lot of speakers around) Phase 4 will be to finish the trunk, and Phase 5 (if I ever get there) will be to hack up the doors for IDQ8DVCs (yeah, I have those waiting here too!!)

Needless to say, I can't WAIT for tomorrow's commute...I never thought I would like to be stuck in traffic!!

I just got the H700 working last night...late, so I've barely played with it. It stages well so far, but the imaging isn't all there. I still don't have any underdash panels or a dash pad, so basically, they are just thrown in. I have a few hundred bands of eq available, so I have yet to play with it. Throw in time alignment, phase choices, x-over choices, etc.....there's lots to tune. Hell I have not even set the gains yet, just cranked them all the way DOWN and it still ear shattering!

THat sounds like a sweet system. I wish that I had enough money to do all that. When you finish everything, you'll never want to leave your car. (Thats the way it should be)

Well, I do have a pair of A600's around....but I think 300W per horn would be a bit much don't you think

Let's put it this way, snare drums smack you in the face...it's awesome...

I'm not a genious yet on audio, so would anyone mind telling me what the "Magic 3" is?What does rewiring the magic 3 do?Is it a way to rewire factory speaker wiring to improve the sound? Thanks.

Info will be forth coming....I want to wait until all stages are complete - or at least until I have a good tuning session before anyone gets a listen...I'm getting shy...hehehe

It should make it to any NorCal IASCA show too this season...If I get things finished in time...

Don't forget the PITA alternator run...I guess I did the magic 4

1. Chassis to battery ground (0/1 ga)
2. Chassis to transmission ground (4 ga)
3. Chassis to engine ground (4 ga)
4. Alternator to battery positive (4 ga)

I was also sure to sand down to bare metal, and seal all connections with silicon...no corrosion for me!!

I don't feel like giving up the pass through to the trunk, so it may just have to be sealed or two IDQ12's....

IB is such a biatch to pull off......

decisions....decisions....

regardless, a can of fix a flat will be required for driving anywhere

rcurley,

What's your opinon on the cx62's, and what are they crossed at + slope?

I'm still deciding on midbasses, and good job on the speaker wire in the door, your definetly right about it being a total pain! !

So far, I really like the mids...I can't remember where they are crossed right now...been changing them so much....

I think that they are HP @ 50Hz with a -18dB slope and lowpassed at 1kHz with a -30dB slope

They are a good set of midbasses, good off axis response. They are very large though! And my one gripe is that they need cleaning every-once-in-a-while. If you get dirt between the cone and the phase plug it makes a nasty sound.
