Default Just got an EG....engine choice?

Hey everyone, im new to this part of honda-tech. I just purchased a 93 civic hatch. I need some help with some of your EG owners...

What engine do you think i should put in? (My goal for now is a 11-13 sec car w/turbo) I can get my hands on an h23 and tranny for dirtttt cheap. Someone suggested that i just use the h23.

Just let me know what you have and pros and cons per engine.

Ill say it before anyone else does. I think you would be best off searching, people that have seen these types of posts thousands of times will just flame and tell you to search. You might get better responses in previous topics or by just reading through them.

Good luck with your search man, do you have a budget?

yeah i know the whole search thing, but im looking more for a personal experience.. i didnt see much threads on this. And as for the 11-13, i thought that exact same thing when i typed it. haha i know that is a huge difference. Lets just say low 12's. And yes, im on a slight budget.

man, yall are tough over here.

the search function is so shitty, When you search EG h23, it eliminates both words because they are too small.

Excellent

h23 with a vtec head and boost. slightly built will get you into the low 12's if not faster. There is a guy near me with a h22 in a Ej1 with Intake and Exhuast and he runs 13.5's.

Check out the book: Civic Duty: The Ultimate Guide to the World's Most Popular Sport Compact Car - the Honda Civic
by Alan Paradise

o Pretty cheap through Wal-Mart.com

o Has a complete, way-user-friendly, section on engine swaps

turbo h22 if you want to go lower than 13

it'd work
but costs oodles and OODLES of money

turbo bseries should get you in the 12's for alittle less... but still lots and lots of money

turbo dseries can get you into the 13's for a reasonable ammount of money.

your thinking of an lsvtec
and its the other way around, LS block(b18) with a vtec head, of which you have a few choices.

and yes it is a good setup,
12second potential... but i'd say that would be unreliable 12second potential.

some ppl who know more about it can chime in tho.

i'd personally recommend a turbo setup tho

well i have a 2002 accord which has about 20k miles on it. I was just about ready to turbo and i had all my parts, then i realized im doing the wrong thing. I dont want to mess up a nice car that my parents bought me, plus i couldnt push my f23 to what i want. So i just went and got the EG and right now i am debating on what motor. Since i can get my hands on the h23 I may just do that.

I was just wondering if there were people out here who liked/disliked the engine or have an recommendations.

well hows ur money situation?
because its going to cost alot more than just the motor itself to get an h23 into an eg hatch,

it'll end up costing more than going dseries turbo... and probably similar results,
cept the h23 will add ALOT of weight to the front of your car.

just my opinion tho

i would rather go gsr turbo..ive seen out there people with h22 motors has h22 with h23 tranny cause the h23 tranny has longer gear ratios in 3rd, 4th, and 5th which is good for boost.

OR you could get a B20/vtec and own everyone...with the bottom end torque-age. I just got one and it pulls like a truck. Frickin incredible.

come on man let him floss the h22 motor.. it is most likely going into his car.
happens all the time when people post about things like this...
at the end most people will say "thanks for the help guys.. but i'll just stick with the h22" and yet i still take a look at threads like this.. wierd???

wich is a great setup by the way and these motors are a reasonable price with tons of torque.. b18c5 if u got the money.. if no hzz is just as good,, exept u got to mod the mounts.. i would go for h22 instead of c5 cause of price... you will hit 13's high.. 11's you would likely need to boost or squeeze.. just not worth putting 5 extra g's in a build..

if you're on a budget...get an LS drop it in and turbo it. it's the easiest route to getting into the 12's.
