Tuning stock cams?
You could advance the timing to 18 degrees for a couple horses at the wheels.
Well,
I know vagoitr from this board basically has only hytech header and exhaust, cam gears and vafc. He made 185whp with this setup, and did mention that the vafc and cam gears were crucial in tuning...
Remember, that's basically 25whp over stock!

Basically, what I'm trying to ask is, what should I expect from toda cam gears and a v-afc?
itr501 - hope you don't mind me riding on your topic

I had put down 185 with a jdm itr, testpipe, stock timing *no advance*, mugen ecu, aem intake, and cams set at +2, +2 (wasn't really going for peak but more midrange) with a fields vtec controller and FPR.
I did the +2 +2 so i can move the powerband a little south. I've heard multiple people going +2 int 0 ex or +1 -1
tp get more overlap. It all depends on where you want the power to be........... all on top all in the middle? peak etc........

I've heard that for the past two years.
"With cam gears you can move your power band"
I think that's bullshit. When you change the cam gear setting, four things can happen...
1-gain power
2-lose power
3-little to no change at all
4-fill in a small gap or dip in the line
I am currently running the stock 98 cams in my car and I dyno'd this past weekend. Setup is as follows...
DC JDM 4-1
Stock exhaust
Stock cams +6, -1
B&M FPR(set at 48psi)
skunk2 cam gears, ecu jumper, p28
milled head 12 thou(about .25 increase)
184.6 and 131.1 on dynojet. i think once i go with a larger exhaust and tune the AFC i will get some more. but for now, the car feels great.

i think if you want info on tuning stock cams, you should talk to epgonzalez. hes gotten 200+ on his stock cams, but hes basically running the whole mugen catalog and then some.
actually i now remember that he had his motor rebuilt too. dunno if you're willing to go that far.

I run consistent 9.1s in the 1/8th mile if that says anything. Not sure what that equates to in the 1/4.... my best is 9.01@80.0

Here is a link to some of my timeslips. You can get a pretty good idea of 1/8th to 1/4 comparisons from that.
