Formula 1 - some out of the box thinking by Williams
Check out the new 2004 FW26 from Williams for the '04 F1 season. Looks radically different. I hope it runs as well as it looks.

well it certainly looks fugly
Seems as though they are getting a good amount of downforce out of the nose, similar to Protoypes.

If its gonna be that ugly it had better be pretty damned fast. Either way Williams kind of has a setback for next year with Montoya leaving. I think its kind of stupid that Ralphie the Whiner gets paid more than Montoya, even though Montoya consistenly and emphatically outperforms him.
Looks like a catfish. Did Bangle have anything to do with this?
Though if it's fast, who cares about the aesthetics.

It'll probably work. As williams uses a twin keel tub; therefore, the front "tusks" should be beneficial -- maybe they've finally optimized this tub design. This design looks a lot like some "Top Loading" scoop grates that have been used on the intake of the jet pump of racing watercraft to force more water into the pump area, and it's relativly successful there.

I agree but I initially thought it looked like a snake ready to strike.

yeah i dont think lack of "thinking out of the box" has inhibited any progress in F1, just rules and post facto bans on technology.
so, is ferrari going to make a street car with a nose like that (even though it's a BMW)?
photoshop guys wanna play with some cars?

The Senna double S logo has been on every Williams car since his passing. I find the Williams-Senna relationship similar to the way Enzo felt about Gilles.

Interesting. Now if only I could find the logo you guys are talking about. Hehe.

They are chimneys, and I believe they help in evactuating heat from the radiators. I have been known to be wrong once before.....once

1. J.P. Montoya Williams-BMW FW26 1'16"630 51 laps
2. R. Zonta Toyota TF103 1'17"984 72 laps
3. J. Trulli Renault R23 1'18"092 99 laps
4. M. Gene Williams-BMW FW25 1'18"099 41 laps
5. F. Montagny Renault R23 1'18"424 90 laps
6. F. Massa Ferrari F2003-GA 1'19"002 60 laps
7. L. Badoer Ferrari F2003-GA 1'19"207 60 laps
8. O. Panis Toyota TF103 1'19"377 47 laps
Montoya was in the new FW-26, Gene is in an updated to 2004 spec. FW-25. The Ferraris are 2003 models, don't know about updated packages there.
The only thing faster *ever* was the unraced in 2003 McLaren MP4/19 (remember they used updated variants of the MP4/18 all season).
That car has yet to be re-unveiled(!) again for 2004.
I hope Ferrari have plenty of midnight oil to burn, BAR for that matter as well, because I don't think Honda will put up with another shitty season in a sport they once flat-out dominated.
Also, I disagree with the 1 engine per weekend rule. What if something happens in practice? Is that it? I don't think evil Bernie wants to start less than 20 cars in a Grand Prix, but that is a possibility under this new format.

Well, I'll be. You're right... Man that MP4/19 must be a radical machine.

Bah! Too many variables to get a good read on a particular cars competitiveness. Some teams testing tires, some teams testing traction control, some teams testing aero packages, some teams...etc.
Though it wouldn't be bad for the sport if Williams or Honda did well again.
The new Honda engine is supposed to be higher in hp, lighter, and more reliable. Button and Sato seemed to be impressed with the new car so far. Who would've thunk that Honda would produce such a mediocre engine for so long though? They'll get better.

for taking a big step in design.
