i think the clutch in my dad's 4g took a crap.. won't go into gear when the engine is running.

as the title says.. 88 dx engine, 90 si tranny- what clutch? i can't remember which one i used when i dropped the engine in.

thanks!

kinda correct...he could have thrown in an 89 flywheel instead...so only way to really find out would be take out the clutch disk and measure it...

yeah, can't remember which flywheel i used. we were in a hurry to get the car running so we swapped it real quick. only 1 of the 2 flywheels worked so we went with it.

what's the difference between clutches in the d-series.. the amount of splines? or is there even a difference between an 88 and 90? i guess i can always bring the old clutch to autozone and match it up with the new one.

thanks,
dan

88 has different splines (i think 23)
89-91 same splines (i think 21)
89 200mm clutch disk
90-91 212mm clutch disk

im not 100% sure, but thats the number i remember off the top of my head...

if he has a 88 engine and flywheel he needs a 89 clutch, it will have the spline count of the 90Si tranny and fit the smaller 88 flywheel. Unless he scores a 90-91 flywheel then he can runn the larger 90-91 clutch.

i just pulled the tranny and the clutch puked a spring. dad must've been roasting the tires.

20 splines and 212mm diameter disc - looks like it's a 90-91

thanks!
