Instrument bulbs
hey everyone... I got a 96 accord lx and im thinking about changing the whole instrument gauge light bulbs (spedo, rpm, gas, temp, etc). I was wondering if the bulbs #194 is the correct size? Is there a bulb that is a little brighter than the stock ones? Lastly, how many of these bulbs do i need so i can go to the store and grab them. Thanks for the help.
On mine there are little "accent lights" and thats the majority of the bulbs like 10 or 12 (mine is a 4th gen) and 6 or 7 of the 194's let me know if you find a different color for the instrument accent lights they are really small...I can only find them in clear (which look like a$$) thanks and hope this helps
depends on the car and year,
you can have the same generation accord but with different cluster(tranny, motor, abs or not, etc)
the big three(speedo, tach. and gas/temp) is mostly lite by 194
those little bastard light like the cel, turn signal is lite by mini blubs, which they dont make in red or blue, only in shitty yellow like stock.
plastic transparent tape would do the job nicely, just wrap all the blubs and slip them back

the bulbs are size 74 i got mine from here http://autolumination.com/3157_3156.htm
Be Careful! i tried to make my 4th gen cluster all red includign turn signals etc. and somehow screwd up my tach and speedo

hey iceking, how did the bulbs screw up your tach anyways? Did you touch the needles? And how do people usually fix the problem?

How were the bulbs?? Did they actually look red because sometimes the aftermarket red look pink, and how long have you had them in and any fade.....****sorry to jack the thrizead****

just did them, yes they are red/pink, probably have to do a led conversion to get dark red, I did not touch any of the needles but i removed the gauges to make the trun signals and auto tranny cluster all red and somehow i must have screwed up the tach, i bought a new cluster and plan on switching out the 3 194 and 2 74 size right on the back and not opening the cluster because it is not worth it too mes it up since I don't even know what I did
Hey I did mine, will get pics soon bought the LED's from that site.....I am using only the clear bulbs right now and looks like ***, but its better than that damn blueish greenish whatever. My question is what are you planning on using for the top film (mine had a blue plastic piece and its a 4th gen), I thought about ghettrofitting a piece of red plastic from homedepot any thoughts? And any clues on how to get the car looking object the one below the gas and temp gauge not blueish....I removed all the jackets from the bulbs (blue covers) they look like midget jimmies and its still blue car, whats up with that?

I am not understanding...a red flexible binder?? That plastic piece that sits on the very top of the cluster and provides most of the light....I was planning on doing red led's...any thoughts on this?
i was looking at the autolumination.com and the #194 bulbs. Am I supposed to get the focused lense or the opaque lens? whats the difference?
It says it in there....focused are like your regular bulbs and the opaque are a surrounding light...and if you want regular bulbs you have to scroll down the bottom of the page otherwise your getting all led bulbs just FYI
Actually that I left that blue pice atop the cluster and it didn't seem to effect the color. The check engine light, ebrake and turn signals etc. is where I used the binder. Cut it to fit so all of them would light up red. I bought my 194 from autobarn but the 74 from autolum
sorry for the confusion but I just want to change the bulbs on the back of the cluster so its blue. So I have to buy the 194 "Incandescent Bulbs" for $.99 each? Cause this is the first time im doing this and I need to know which bulbs to buy and there are so many on the page.
As long as the bulb type is the same, its bulb 74 or instrument bulb or accent bulb and 194 for the other bulbs...those are the only 2 i found in my entire dash lighting system. And you can either get the led or the regular bulb, IMO the regular bulbs just after a while fade and start to look like ***.....it will probably fade to that greenish blue again, you can use testors transparent paint and paint the bulbs if you wish too
