explain this to me my 97 accord coupe ex, (manual), is seemsing lose power, over the last year its had a bran new clutch put in with slave and master cylinders replaced. Its oil is changed on time all the time. But, ever since I hit 80,000 miles it just seems slower. Its like ive lost horse power. Could there be anything thats causing this. It runs fine it sounds perfect. The only mods I have are cool air intake. Cam gears. Fuel rails and exhaust piping upgrade with stock muffler. Please help thanks
It could be a lot of things. How about the regular maintenance items, have they been looked after? Spark plugs, fuel filter? The filter on the CAI cleaned recently?
Start with the easy things first, then move it up.

the car is kept up well, but i havent cleaned the filter in forever. What regular maintence stuff could it be though. And would cleaning the filter really be noticable difference.
possibly compression loss???.......thats what happened in my '79 MG Midget
check all the ignition related parts.....if plugs are old theyre probably high speed glazed

I hope you have changed your t-belt, though this may/may not be related, its just a belt and it pretty much drives your engine.....if you haven't gotten it done I would HIGHLY recommend it
i would have to agree with checking the plugs, and if you havent changed the timing belt do so cause they can do some serious damage if not replaced(i.e. the valves left opened when it goes and then they are shot)
I have a 94 Accord EX 189k with the same problem. I have just installed MSD wires, 3330 cold NGK plugs, Fuel filter, PVC valve, Cap and Rotor, Compression good. I checked the timing, everything is fine. I am losing power as well. No check egine light on. When I floor it in first it hesitates and lags. I haven't changed the Cat Converter could this cause the problem? Fuel injectors? The car runs great other then moving off power.
any suggestions would be good.

Factory recommended interval for timing belt on that car is 105,000 miles.

Signs of a stopped up cat are notible when you floor it. It just doesn't want to go.

You check it with a timing light. But if you're accord is newer than a 95 model, don't bother because you can't adjust them. Only 95 and older accords are adjustable.

If you're going to replace your spark plugs, make sure you get either NGK or NIPPON-DENSO. I've seen problems with aftermarket or other brand name plugs.
Escobar, thanks for the quick reply, but I was refering more to where theviewing hole is, and where the timing adjustment is made. Of corse you check it with a timing light

True but depending on how its driven this will determine the life of that belt its just a recommended interval also the recommended oil change is around 5000-7000 miles (seen on other threads)...how many people do that?

Yes I check the timing, it is fine. I also check the computer for error codes. I came up with 12 the books says that the check engine light should flash the code, but the abs light on the dash did it instead. is this right?

I have never changed the Cat. When you rev it with out being in gear it revs fine, but when in gear it hesitates.
