Engine Swap now illegal???
i live in los angeles california, and i always heard stories about people getting BAR stickers for their engine swap. THen i called a junkyard shop today aaskin about their engines in stock and i was told that the goverment is no longer letting people get BAR stickers. Is this true. im on the verge of swapping my motor and now my dad is completely against the idea unless i can prove to him that a BAR sticker is still offered.
I dont think thats right, cause im going in for my BAR test on the 8th. If it was illegal they wouldnt have let me sign up. They ask you why are you taking the test, i said for a swap and they said ok.
yeah you can get a bar sticker,
engine has to be usdm (doesnt have to be but its a lot easier) if the engine is jdm then you have to switch all of the smog and emissions equip over to usdm.
ecu has to be right ecu for engine (should be usdm)
engine has to be same year as your car or newer.
engine has to pass smog.
and all aftermarket parts that influence your smog has to have a carb sticker.
i got mine a couple months back so i dont know if they changed it for 04. just call dmv or try to get the # to the bar.
theres a lot of topics on this in the search database.
