Wondering the same thing. Never heard of this.

Only times I've ever heard of that would be to have a key cut, or to confirm the correct part when there may have been several different parts used on a similar model car (i.e. A/C compressors)
exactly Mugen Mike, Im located in the USA and the dealer here told me that the dealer parts manager in canada needs a vin too look up a part number due to there being a special one year only part (RED SEATS) I am requesting if you dont believe me call up a canadian acura dealer yourself.
tell the dealer he's full of ****...I was was never asked my vin to get some parts for the R.... other then to make keys the VIN is useless...

I'm not calling you a liar, it's just an odd question. Can't you find someone selling a used set -- it has to be a helluva lot cheaper than ordering through the dealer. Otherwise, see if a Canadian member can get the part # for you -- I'm not sure how willing anyone would be to give out there VIN number.

if you can get me the part numbers then that would be alot easier and alot more helpful I need the part numbers for the front and rear ALL RED seats for a customer.
thanks
thanks
I live in Canada I am pretty sure the 2001 type r has red fronts and black back.. To my knowledge the 1999 to 2001 were the same... I know the 1998 were black all the way around. Here the fronts used will run you 2000 used so I suggest you find someone local to get them
It is an odd question for a parts person to ask for a vin number. I had undergone the same circumstances at a couple of Acura dealerships here in the bay area. I wanted part numbers for the interior (front/rear seats, arm rest) and they requested a vin number from me. I never asked why, anyhow I never got the part numbers.

If you tell me specifically which part you need the # for, I will walk out to the garage and find the part number for you.

But it's pricey though.. I checked it out almost two years ago, and the covers were..$ 240-$ 280 each.. per part.. and then headrests on top of that.. I did want to pick some up to replace mine down the road when they wore out, but not at that price.. I'll get some racing seats in red first..
some parts guys are lazy or duumass. its easier to punch a vin# in rather than enter yr/mk/model/trim level/options. they sometimes will ask for vin# just to get you a lightbulb.
i guess some places ask and some don't, but if they wanted to make a copy of a key would'nt they need to see proof of registration or title of some sort before they even bother to order a key for that vin? just wondering.
I just called a dealership here in Toronto Ontario. He mentioned that there is NOT any one part number for seats. It seems that there are many part numbers that make up a seat (I.E - head rest is one part number, seat sliders are another part number, etc, etc)
Needless to say, a full interior (front & rear) for a 2001 R is $ 9000.00 dollars Canadian. I think you better look for a used set.

The point is.... you don't have to own an integra to buy integra parts. You can walk in and plop $5000 on a dealer's desk and order an engine. Like esponet said, it is easier than typing in year/model/color/etc. But it IS pointless since many non-integra owners want to buy integra parts (just think of rear LCA's, that's a good example). Dumb procedure, but how to get around it? I'm not sure....
