How to read EGT gauge

How to read EGT gauge
I just installed my EGT and would like to know when the reading is bad and maybe some warning signs to look out for. On normal driving the temp reads around 8-900 degrees. Around what temp is lean or rich? Pls let me know what I should look out for. Thx
