Browsing through an old Road & Track and found this...
I was browsing through an old Road & Track issue and stumbled upon this small review. Pardon the poor image; I don't have a scanner. If you're curious, the article is on page 262 in the June 1997 issue of Road & Track.

Sorry if this has been posted elsewhere. I was checking out itrsport.com's magazine reviews but couldn't find any Road & Track review.
Enjoy...and I hope everyone had a great New Year's Eve and had/is having a great New Year's Day.

They got some decent numbers out of it, 6.2 & 14.8. Occasionally I look at a Car & Driver I have from 97 which they tested the R. Their numbers were higher though. Then again the R isn't about raw numbers.

always cool to read these original articles- and I usually learn something about the R everytime too
I was at the Honda/Acura dealership today looking at an RSX that has an "a-spec" factory "performance package." Nice looking car, wing, 17" JDM-ITR-looking wheels, front chin spoiler and some suspension changes. But the damn thing was $29,000 and already sold - you have got to be kidding me. I'd get an EVO before I ever bought some factory riced-out RSX for nearly $30K. When is Honda going to bring us another Type-R? The new Si is a joke, I'm sorry, I can't stand it... and that leaves us with what? The S2000, NSX.... much more expensive and not nearly the rawness of the ITR. I was reading about the Evo RS that is coming over, and it completely reminded me of the ITR. Honda needs to wake up!
edit: another cool thing to note about the EVO RS is that only 700 will be sent to the states, and you can only get them in Red or White. Sound familiar?

LOL.. I laughed at that also. Great article. If I knew more about Hondas in 2000, I would've purchased an R over my SI.

The EVO RS unfortunately isn't all it's cracked up to be, apparently. It loses the wing, some sound insulation, AC, ABS, and body-matched mirrors (just black plastic mirrors...why, I have no idea), which wind up being about 70 lbs of stuff. It also gains a front helical LSD, and the price is maybe $2000 - 3000 less. It is made to be more raw, but in the sense that it's the starting point of a track car, rather than a ready-made one like the R. I was excited as well until I found out about those details. Search on http://www.evolutionm.net for more info if you're interested.

For people who have never driven a GSR back-to-back with a Type R--yes, there is a huge difference between the two cars in stock form. I mean huge.
Hence is why my 97 GSR got traded in on a 00 ITR
