Default Brake Lamp?

Ok, my girlfriend's car is a bit weird. One of her brake light bulbs are brighter than the other. We are just going to change both bulbs, but the "BRAKE" Lamp in the cluster is always on no matter what.

Any help would be great for me and her. Thanks

Your problem is a ground issue. Somewhere in the circuit there is a ground that is not grounding fully. You will have to get a schematic to follow the circuit. When you find the grounding points ... you should undo the bolt and sand the area beneath when the bolt goes through the connector to help it ground better.

True and check your brakes...usually its a sign of wear on the brake system, if you have no lights out, its probably your brakes and not just your lamps

The brake light indicator works on a grounding system to let you know when a bulb is out. If he has one bulb that is brighter then another ... then it is sending a signal that a grounding problem exists and that is why the light is on.

Yes ... it can also indicate that your brakes are getting low ... but considering what he has said in the thread ... it is gonna be because of the ground problem he is experiencing.

That was the exact problem. I spent 15 mins figuring it out and one of the rear brake lights were brigther than the other. So it was caused by grounding. One of teh sockets were dented so the bulbs werent completely "closed"

Thanks for all the help
