Check this link out. Accord motors whats this f22b DOHC ?
Oki, im looking for a new motor, being that i was boosting 17 psi on a stock f22 sohc motor and well the rings didnt wanna hold anymore. I really dont feel like building the f22 and doing the turbo setup anymore. Im looking for a motor that will just run for me. Either a stock f22b for cheap or if i can get my hands on someting else for a good price i might work that angle too. I was looking the streetimports page and ran across a f22b DOHC motor for $999 now what motor is this out of? I havent heard of the f22b DOHC motor before, only the f20 DOHC.
And for the price im curious as if anyone has any info about this motor?
Help would be great thanks.

I think it was a 4th gen dohc non-vtec j-spec prelude si motor that was only built in japan, the only specs i found was that it had hp: 160 @ 6000 and tq: 148@ 5500. Sounds like an accord motor but with another cam....might be good for boosting.
Thanks for your your help.. For the price it doesnt seem bad.. Its always nice to have a DOHC motor too..
Humm,, I wonder if thats obdI or obdII?
Will that bolt to an accord tranny? Its should shouldnt it? Being that it is a f series motor.

I would say given the year it was produced (4th gen prelude) I would say obdI, as far as bolting up it should just b/c its a f series and a dohc motor would be nice...compared to the $$$ 2000 for a h series swap or 1000 for a f series dohc swap, but just FYI it was never produced here so parts may be limited but then again you should be able to flip/flop parts with another f series (ya or na?)
92-96 Prelude Si (JDM) F22 160 hp @ 6000 148 lb-ft @ 5500
That is the info I got

yeah that was in the accord type r i think .. kinda like a jdm version of the h23 if i remember right
but all in all, tranny will bolt up
for a grand you can get a h22 also have have the parts availabity you want..
even at 999 thats still just long block, you might lose some of its potential running the accord tranny
btu worst case. you jst deal with it
you could buy pistons, rods and valvetrain for your f22 and only spend the same amount and boost the hell out of it and make some nice power for the same $

well when i had the motor in my accord it was a good replacement, but the aftermarket support or even the factory support isn't there. you will have troubly trying to find which part comes from an accord. which part comes from the prelude, its not a popular motor and not many people will work on it either since they don't know much about it. save and go h22 or just get a h23 you'll be happier on the long run.

I didnt dyno at 17 psi.. But accordfreak has 269 hp rolling with 14 psi or some **** on a sohc automatic accord.. same setup i had, but i was running more boost so you can figure it out for yourself! Well i would do a h22 swap but i cant find the motor for $1000 if someone can show me an h22 longblock for sale for the price of $999 im up for it.. But i dont wanna spend that much even.. I just wanna get back to a car that runs and that i can drive without spending a shitload of money! Remember like Accordfreak i have an automagic too! So by finding the f20b to bolt to my tranny for that price was kinda surpizing.. Seems likes a rare motor worth buying.. No matter what the after market aspect or outlook may seem for the motor. Still something i dont want to deal with is the obd conversion.. not worth my time,, i would rather just get a OBDII f22b2 SOHC motor and spray my 75 shot on it again, and have fun without the headache..
Thats my main point,, im not willing to blow more money on a motor then i need too.

blah balh,, i still ran way more boost then mine or his motor would last,, so its a good compairison...... nothing more nothing less...
it was auto.. from what i know but i havent been online to see changes,, dont have the time.

I would say for a reliable motor and would still be fun (you wouldnt need the nozzzz) go for the h22, its a little more but the support is there versus parts for the jdm f22dohc. Also your f22 tranny will bolt up to the h22 (I have heard) but you will have longer gears and shift out of vtec almost everytime, not to mention I am sure the stock auto won't last very long, I know they have a jdm h22 auto tranny. Just my suggestion spend a little more and end up with less headache. Nonetheless good swap and different
If you pay $999 for that motor, be sure to grease your ******* up good first
i have seen them go from anywhere between 400 to 800, locally and on ebay and/or various internet dealers.

yeah, i have seen them at like 750, since all they are is another h23..
there is a jdm replacement place in jacksonville, that sells just jdm replacement motors cause they are cheaper to dump into usdm cars.. that motor is just the jdm version of the h23. so its cheap and available out there..

well i am sure that this question i am about to ask has been aswered hundreds of times, but i am going to ask anyway since it is in the same ballpark as this thread. cost for a full h22a swap and manual conversion on a 94 accord? rough price for everything. feel free to make funny comments about the guy who has asked the endless repetitive question!
thanks for your help though

all depends what you do, where you go and what you get and where the parts are from..
you can pay next to nothing and it be done right.. or you can pay out the *** and it be dont crappy...
if your doing the swap and conversion. it might be better/cheaper since youll have your tranny with the swap..
if you plan on upgrading do it now.. get your clutch, flywheel and other stuff while its all out and apart..

oki well i have founda h22 long blaock or a h23longblock, your choice for about $1000.00 here is the link.

now how big of a pain is it to do a obdII switch over to obdI?
And would it be worth the extra time and money to do a 5 speed conversion at the same time as the motor swap and the obd conversion.. With all that combined sounds like more headaches then i need all at once.
Unless someone here has done all of this?

I haven't done my swap yet....but since you have it out and if it comes with a tranny, you might as well do the manny conversion too (more fun to drive IMO) and if its 92-94 Ithink it should be obd I, and your car should already be OBD I as well (what year was your ride again?)and why not for the extra 200 bucks get the h22? If your looking for a manual tranny I know a site that can get you everything you need as far as engine tranny ecu etc.... http://www.total-boost.com plus they are a sponsor of H-T
Thanks for the link.. im thinking of just buying a f22 again and doing a 5 speed conversion and putting my Zex kit back on that setup.... Being i dont wanna keep wasting money on swapping... My car is OBDII so its more of a pain in the ***..
Its a 5th gen accord but unlike 94-95 obdI its a 95-96 obdII.. so more work there also.. i just want to drive the damn car again and not blow to much on it anymore. Keep it simple.

Whats going on, I have a 95 Prelude SE and its sitting in my enigine bay right now. As far as purchasing I would definetly check ebay becuase I have seen them auctioned before for a long time and the price is about $750. But like some of the others said the aftermarket and dealer support is not really there b/c its non-USDM motor. Most h23a parts will fit this motor, except a few exceptions. As far as modding the motor definetly use a h23a ECU it works better for performance and other reasons. And boosting wouldn't be bad considering that the motor has very low compression. I am using it as a get around motor while I finish building my h22a.
