Default poor mans catch can...will it work??

ok i seen a post here a looong time ago from somebody that used a clear fuel filter and hooked it up inline with the breather hose and he said it trapped the oil.
oh and by the way i have searched for and cant find the post. somebody has to remember that post?? maybe..

well do you think this will work? probably have to drain it more often that a real catch can...what do you think?
oh this is a real cheap DIY'er. the filter only cost $2.07 at advance auto parts.

OT: when can i start posting more than 5 messages per 24 hour period??! this sucks. heh

I've done this...

I used an inline fuel filter with "breather filter" gaws in between... it DOES soak strain out a good deal of oil that's vaporized in the pcv system...

I only used it inline from the pcv to the intake manifold...

Where you have it pictured it shouldn't do much if anything... I've been meaning to put one there also just to see how much or little goes through there...

The idea is that at least while your engine is in normal vacum it should be sucking in air from the intake pipe (where you have it pictured) into the valvecover)...

The only place oil fumes should be coming OUT of is from the pcv valve to the intake manifold itself... although I believe it reverses to some degree when you're engine braking...

DIY Oil Catcher
Use a 2 litter bottle. run the hose to the placement of the bottle, and run the hose back. Very simple, works great.

Yes, it should work. Anything with a filtering element should work. Most filters are nothing more than a fancy can with 2 fittings and a plexiglass tube so you can see when it is full. Few of the aftermarket cans have any sort of baffling or filtering material inside of them.

Also, isn't the breather chamber supposed to serve as a catch can?
