I know there was another thread about it, but damned, I just need to vent.

Looked at the program guide for tomorrow and DAMN, f00king Speed Racer, aka the stupidest g*ddam thing on TV, back-to-back all the way from 7:00 am Friday through 1:30 am Saturday morning. It's bad enough they have a continuous stream of that crap every few hours during the regular week, instead of airing any one of the hundreds of hours of footage of road racing from the last 30+ years that they must be sitting on. WTF? I'd rather watch Christopher Lowell mate with Barnie the purple f*cking dinosaur. Maybe since they're apparently showing every f00king episode of that show all in a row they won't have any excuse to pile any more of it on us.



-Floyd, jonesing to race so bad, and really getting the off-season after the season where he didn't race the whole g*ddam year blues, and all he gats is f*cking ASSCAR ("Boogedy Boogedy Boogedy" Look guys I still have 3 teeth, where the f*ck is my last Budweiser) and now Speed Racer!

AAARRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

I'm going to go put my helmet on now, and go sit in my car, on the trailer, under the car cover, in the yard. See you later, in a more happy place.

I truly am glad that I haven't watched enough of that aweful show to even know WTF the mammoth car is. I would rather spoon out my eyeballs with rusty kitchen utensils.

What about some reruns of '90's Bridgestone Supercar World Series races? M5 vs. Vettes vs Lotus vs Porsche vs Ferrari anyone?

What about all of the various Touring car and GT series from around the globe? Old Can-Am or IMSA races? Aussie Supercars? ALMS replays???

The manmoth car? Is that the train of military transports?? I always liked the episode where they put the winglets on the bottom of the car. Ehhh memories from two decades ago ... I *tried* watching it the other morning and good Lord, that dude shuffle steers 80 times to make it through a sweeper And I didn't even get to see him use the fiyong-ton-tong ski hoppers

So what's the "G" all about on his jersey? Does Speedu start w/ a G in Japanese or is that for Gaijin.

You know that is a good question. The first wave of Anime imported to the US was heavily altered from the original versions. Speed Racer, Warriors of the Wind, Star Blazers, etc. Lots of editing and even complete story rewrites.

The current crop of imports like Yu-Gi-Oh, Dragon Ball, Yu-Yu Hakusho, etc don't seem to have much. I guess American culture is a little more tolerant of "Not Invented Here". Donno. It would be cool see the original even though I am with Richard and have no real love for Speed Racer.

Funniest **** I've read so far this year. I agree, that show sucks. Rather watch old Nascar races, which are boring as hell to me. Hopefully lil less Nascar 2004 and more grassroots stuff. (crosses fingers)

 

That was my favorite show when I was 6, but it's a bit too dopey for me to watch these days. Now if someone would just start rerunning Ultra Man and UFO.

 

Yeah they should show old road racing, maybe old hour long clips from Le Mans races, like from the eighties and ninties, group c cars please . If they have to show a cartoon, show Inital D at least

I stopped taking the speed channel seriously whenever they started airing Nascar QVC. I literally screamed at the tv when I saw that.

 

Well at least you can look forward to seeing Racer X

Ahh, the Next-Gen's path. Weeeell, back in my day, we didn't have these kart things, we had to walk our Big Wheels up the hill both ways ... in 2 feet of snow mind yas. Darn blasted meddling kids!!!

Never had a Green Machine, didn't want one. I was plenty happy w/ fixed steering and 2 flat spots per rotation thank you very much

Speed Racer's name in the JDM version is "Go". Trixie has an "M" because her name was "Michi". The word "go" is used as a play on words a lot in the Japanese version. It's Speed's name, it's Japanese for the number 5, and it can also mean "GO!" just like it does in English. The original title of the show was "Mach Go, Go, Go"

 

Oh! Ain't that cool. I never would have put 5 and go and the G together.

Actually it's a combination of Anthrax, Helmet and White Zombie, with a little Megadeth added in for good measure. Ahhhhhh, motivational music. Red mist on a CD, me calls it.

Agreed, by far the worst show the Speed airs. I am so sick of the preview ds, that I switch off the volume during commercials.

Well, my four year old really likes the idea of having it on all day. Currently, it is his favorite new show (new to him).

My mom was over the other day, and witnessed him watching the show, singing the song and simply into the show. She had a total Deja Vu, and couldn't believe it, but said I did EXACTLY the same thing 35 years ago. It brought a tear to her eye.

That being said, I do have a tough time watching it for its content now, and without having the nostalgia behind it, I can see where some of you guys are coming from.
