DO I NEED ENGINE MANAGMENT???TURBO CIVIC
hey i got a turbo ZC DOHC civic and wondering do i need managment sys to drive it round and boost what (finishing plumbing tomorrow arvo) what happens when im finished plumbing driveable ? boosting??? or will it cut out and blow up???
thanks
thanks
man when ever i ask for help i get crappy replys
i know that i should get one in NZ a turbo link is the way to im after a cheaper solution that doesnt require a engine managment sys if any .
is all im asking

You can drive the car around, but you should stay out of boost, you WILL need fuel managment for your turbo. You didn't give us the details we need for the setup, how many pounds of boost do you plan to run?

i was gonna get a tubolink eventually but i just wanted to know if i was able to boost along without it know i know it aint such a good idea .
hey now wondering can i just put 2 more injectors in the rail and when turbo starts boosting the extra injectors start pumping in more fuel by a pressure vavle.
would that work that would mean i could keep factory ecu doesnt it???

not sure but what everyone nelse says a FMU and Inline fuel pump may be your best bet to drive around untunned and also being from NZ. FMU and Inline Fuel pump are really easy to come by, classifieds r full with them, and either a Missing link or Check Valves will be needed and u shouldn't have a problem with the ECU
ehh, FMU is fuel management unit... man, not to be an ***, but you gotta read up on some boost/turbo stuff before you start boosting and building a setup...you will be sorry and become one of the many, many horror stories that are on this board, like i said, not being a dick, just watching out for you
and for the extra injectors? why? - leave it with multiport injection, its much more efficient than throttle body injection... get some bigger injectors, high flow pump, FPR, FMU, and a VAFC and tune it <-- dont skimp on that either... then again, hondata wouldnt be much more $$$ than what you have to spend on three of those things...

i did research alot and is what im doing right now
no one in NZ uses hondata coming on this website was the first i heard of it .
i went to car performance place and they said extra injectors or the link sys (turbolink)im looking for other alternatives that might be cheaper or even better than them two options.

I would definitely do more research before you start actually doing the project next time but everyone, this is what this board is for, help.
Yes you need fuel management. I would suggest not cheaping out on this part of the project. Everyone wants to cause this is where you have to spend big bucks.
Get a good engine management. I would suggest Hondata (this is what I have) or AEM EMS. Both will need to be tuned by a professional (its very difficult, I'm pretty good a working on cars but I don't understand this part yet,) so when you choose one, make sure your tuner is able to tune one of them or there is a tuner for at least one of them in your area. Be willing to drive far to get to a good tuner!! I drove 2.5 hours to the only Hondata tuner around!
Get some better injectors. Stock will not due. Get some 450cc mitsubishi injectors used from someone or a junk yard for cheap, have them cleaned/flow tested and get a resistor box if you need one too and use these (this is what I have) or you can also buy some aftermarket injectors from like RC or Siemens Deka etc.....
Edit....no FMU unless after you get one of the engine management systems your tuner tells you to. Also get a Walbro 255lph INTANK pump. NOT Inline.

ok If you decide to go with a Intake fuel pump, and Injectors then you will need to have the car tunned, probably wide band o2 sensor tunning in your situation. But if you were to purchase a FMU and a Inline fuel pump then you wouldn't need injectors. If you still dont know what a FMU is Do a search in the archieves
i would buy a Hondata !
but if i wanted to get it tuned i would have to drive 27hours straight and cross over to the north island on the big boat!!!so im limited to turbolink was offered by car place and the extra injectors thing!that y im asking .honestly i did research it all every little thing and its also what im doing now.
thanks

You 2 options:
1: Not cheap, Hondata or EMS, bigger injecton, intank pump
2: Cheap, FMU and inline pump BUT that's not a safe route so you can't pump on the boost.
It's all in the tuning. Everything is done in the ECU. Without a standalone, your not gonna get far.
Do as we do, learn about ECU, boost and tuning, and start working on your on car. I'm also like on an Island where there isen't even a dyno.

and drive your car over to the northern island or wherever it is in new zealand....fmu 12:1 + inline and stock injectors and i don't know if you have a boost controller but i'm sure you have a wastegate....that'll sustain a constant boost level at whatever setting the spring is rated....you'll be fine just don't drive like a moron

Just realize that you cant run high levels of boost on a FMU setup. Its cheap, easy, and it will work but dont try and boost 15psi on it.
So, get the FMU and fuelpump like they say and you should be fine.

Cheapest: FMU w/ Inline Pump (~$200)
Moderate: AFC w/ 450cc injectors (~$400)
Expensive: Hondata/AEM and so on
Actually the cheapest: You can also try Turboedit or uberdata but it seems you are lost enough so i would suggest the AFC and the 450's. just get something

hey mike1114, im gonna get hondata too and im pretty good with cars; math, physics etc (atleast the automotive aspect of those areas)..from your experience your saying i should take the trip to the one hondata tuner i know of over here in ny rather than ****** with it myself?..ive asked the question before and no response really..i should be able to figure it out, i mean its not a haltec or tec II , shouldnt it be atleast possible with the right info...? isnt there base maps and **** for them..couldnt you use those for meanwhile till u get a pro to look at your setup?????
yeah, but in order to tune it your self you need

so it's not just "oh I'll do it myself", it is more like "what is cheaper go to a tuner, who already has all this gear, or buy it all and do it myself"
