I had a friend who imported an STI, what he did was he completely disassemble the car in Japan and ships the parts over and reassemble everything back together. Then do emission test and registerred as a custom built car. Of course, it's going to be RHD as well.

How the hell did he get away with shipping the frame? And damn thats got to cost alot of money. Unless he just used and RS body and added all the STI crap he shipped over, but damn thats got to cost more in shipping then just importing the damn thing.

yeah, sounds fishy. As far as I know there are no street-legal GC8 imprezas in the states. There are Escort Cossies, Skylines, maybe some Evos, but I have never heard of a turbo GC8 Impreza here that is not track-restricted.

If someone knows of one, take some pics and send em to me! I'll post them.

There's someone on this board somewhere that has a JDM Type-R, RHD, street driven, real deal here in the states. He lives around me. I guess that there's supposedly getting to be more than a couple of real Japanese ITRs around the northwest here. Maybe look in the classifieds for his screenname, I know he was trying to sell it. I'm not sure the difference of importing a new and an old ITR...

Well, it's a used, not brand new. Who will want to chop a brand new STI and reassemble it. right?

I'd do it if it was a Skyline R34GTR-Vspec II.

STI is coming anyways..

Some of the rules governing our country sure are stupid. You have to wonder who came up with this ****?

Oh, we got a RHD CTR driving around up by me in Wisconsin. It is REAL NICE! I have seen it on two occassions now.

Can somebody actually quote some of these "rules" that say foreign countries cannot bring a specific model to the U.S.A.?

Perhaps there is a cap on imports controlled by things like taxes, cost, shipping, DOT standards, that are outside the realms of written rules that can govern the actions of a foreign company. But is there such a rule that tells a foreign company they cannot import a specific model, i.e. did some U.S.A. government body state to Honda that they cannot import the Civic Type R?

I'm curious since I see that people sometimes blame the U.S.A.'s policy on auto import/export on being snubbed from a certain model/trim.

HXMan - Yeah, I've seen that CTR here in Milwaukee too. He spent some mondo bucks on that car. It has Mugen Wheels, Mugen Carbon Fiber Hood, and Mugen Body Kit. Who knows what has been done to the motor and inside of that car. I talked the CTR owner at the Hobbs Import Show this summer. This was back when it was completely stock and just got out of the body shop. From what I've heard that CTR was a track car in Japan and was actually rolled prior to it being shiped over. I think he paid around $13,000 - 14,000 for the wrecked car and then spent a cool $8,000 fixing it up. That was back before any Mugen stuff was added.

Do you visit Hwy 100 in Milwaukee much HXMan?

There is no such thing as a Mugen Hood for a EK.
