Accord mini-me head swap ??
My friend has a 98' Accord LX (non-vtec) auto. He has the whole body kit BS and stuff, but he also has a zex kit that I installed. He has gone through 3 bottles so far with no problems. He also has a full exhuast, header, and K&N ( for what it is worth ).
He's looking for more power...
I'm not at all familar with accords ( I'm not even sure what motors came in what cars/models ), but I know you can swap a D-series vtec head to a Non-vtec D-series block ( or visvera like me ). Can this be done with the F22 he has ? If so, what will he need ? What kinda compression and power gains would he see ?
I know my civic like the back of my hand, but accords are a blank in my mind. Any help, info, or links you guys can lend me would be great, thanx in advance.

Don't bother with the head swap.
If he were to do anything to the head at all, either P&P it, or send away the head, IM, and TB to Gude.
I'd say forget the little stuff, and just boost the hell out of the F23. That motor is pretty much perfect for boost.

Wow, didn't know it was a 2.3L F23... So will the vtec head and ecu swap on ? Does the F23 have lower compression or something ? He already has nitrous and I'm building him a D16A6 with integ rods and pistons and 10.8/1 compression, cam, and fully balenced for his crx ( more a race kinda car ). His accord is like a daily driver kinda deal, but he's been getting up-set getting hammered by focus's and stuff....
I can understand where he is coming from, even if a NOS car is fast on the nitrous, its still mostly slow while just driving ( my civic used to be zex powered too ). He just wants a little faster for daily driving, not spending $4000 on a turbo kit when the same money on the crx would take him twice as fast ( please don't take that wrong ).
I don't see a port and polish doing much for most hondas...
I wish home made turbo kits were as easy for accords as they are for civics...
What is the general HP limit for the F23 he has ? ( most people say 220hp on d-series, but 250-300 isn't insane ).

first off, make sure it's really not a vtec, cause if it's a LX, it should have vtec. If it is the non-vtec f23a5 then I'm not sure how much power there is in a head swap. the a5 is rated 13 hp lower than the a4 and 15 less than the a1 but the a1/a4 have a 9.3:1cr vs I think 8.5:1 in the a5. not sure on that last number but I know its a good bit lower. not sure if the extra CR comes from a different piston, a smaller combustion chamber on the head or both. but if the diff is in the piston, then about all you can do to get that compression back is to mill the head or block, or swap pistons.
a1 and a4 are identical motors, with different sensor packages/ecu programs to make them LEV(a1) or ULEV(a4).
the head will bolt up. but beyond that, i'm not sure what else has to be done. the a1/a4 has slightly dished pistons with a little valve relief cut in them. I've got no idea what the a5 pistons look like though, so I guess you'll have to just bolt it up and clay it to find out if there is a clearance issue. no idea if the intake manifold will bolt up, but i'm like 99% sure the exhaust mani will. Otherwise it's pretty much standard mini-me stuff, new ecu or some other way to run vtec, and running vtec wires.
i got a used f23a1/4 head for $150 shipped, and I bought a used PAA(f23a1) ecu off ebay for $25 a long *** time ago. I got a head milled for $45, and it can be milled with the valves still in it. head gasket it about $75 and new head bolts are in the $25 range. Even if it's not much gain, it's still cheap power. about what you would pay for a name brand exhaust system
post up if you decide to do this. even though I have an a1, I'm dying to know how this goes.
there are a ton of f23s at the 200 - 220 mark with bolt on turbos and no internals, so that is definately safe. other than that, there aren't really any built f23s out there that i've ever seen.

Guess I outta get what motor he has straight... Hummm, any links to reasonably priced T3 turbo manifolds ?? t3/t4 at 6-8psi would do him good, and I could build the kit pretty cheap...
