I don't remember the exact colors of all the wires [the ones on the trans are yellow and green/black (?) ]
There's a connector on the top of the trans case with 2 wires on it, add some wires to extend those into the car all the way to the auto shifter box. Now look at the old auto shifter on the side you can see which color wires make contact when put into reverse, follow those wires to the main connector and finally connect the 2 wires which were extended from the connector on top of the trans and hook them up to the appropriate colors you found off the side of the auto trans shifter.

Either look up the wire colors in a shop manual, or pull the rear plastic trim from the trunk and look at the wire colors, 1 of the wires should be connected directly to the shifter.

The other can be found with a voltmenter by checking for continuity.

i considered that, but this is for my beater car and i need it to pass inspection. PA is pretty strict with the inspections and my friend just lost his station a few months back. so i have to go to a "legit" shop.

I was always told 2 or 3 different color wires. All i did was leave my auto gauge cluster in and started touching wires together until the reverse lights came on. i think in mine it was a green/yellow wire connected to yellow/white wire.
