there was a similar post recently on valve spring stiffness...
remember, stiffest isn't the best... check http://www.importreview.com for the tests, although i dunno about their bias...
I will say stick with what the manufacturer of the cams recommends... toda springs with toda cams and jun spring with jun cams...
retainers are basically just solid units, so you want some that won't gall, and stiffer springs will cause them to gall... jun retainers are high $, portflow are reasonable, and toda don't make retainers for the b series motors that I know of...
Funny that you mention this topic, cause you screen name is boostindc2 - so spec a's would be the most I'd go with while "boostin," and you don't need valve springs or retainers for them...

well i have the spoon cams already and im looking to rev out higher so i want to up grade. plus i have an ITR head and i want to rev past 8500. so would stiffer be better if im reving out higher like 9000 or 9500
ok, so the spoon cams are mild compared to the spec b's or c's or type 3's...
From what I understand, if you have stock itr springs they should be good to 9300 rpm's... I dunno if I would trust that info though. Make sure you research well. If you don't have those springs, use itr inners and portflow outers and you should be good... supposedly.
Didn't your spoon cams come with cam gears, ecu, and springs? I thought they sold them in a package.
Have you thought that the spoon cams might not even make power that high in the rpm band? I think they peak between 8000-8500 rpm's... from there, you power is going down so why keep revving?
Be careful, because if you get springs that are too stiff they will actually cause you to lose power... What does spoon recommend? I'd contact aj racing in canada and ask them.

Skunk 2 just came out with retainers.... check http://www.inlinefour.com for pricing.
Not sure if they are good or not.

toda spec c, maybe jun type 3... but honestly when revving that high it is so hard to make power. The pressures and friction are exponential over 6k rpm... Why do you want to rev so high?

well, with fi you want mild cams... itr, ctr, spec a's or i guess spoons...
but what I'm saying is that you wont be making power @10k rpm's... Look at some dyno graphs and you'll see that there are damn few people making power up there, if any.
Besides, with a turbo you don't need it. Stick with the spoons and don't go over 9k and you'll see where your power is. Unless you have a giant turbo and it takes forever to spool you won't even need to rev that high...
What is the motor you plan to put all this in? gsr?

If you have the valve springs then just get the retainers from Toda
Where would you suggest we get these from?
