JDM ITR rim tire choices
I currently have 215/45/16 Michelin Pilot Sport. I'd get the same one but it'll cost me $1.1k (@ costco).
I searched the forum and found out that 205/45/16 also should fit on my JDM ITR rims. With that, I can get Good Year Eagle F1 GS-D3 tires for about half of that price (probably around $600).
I'm prob gonna go with the 1cm less wide tires to save $500~, but I just wanted to find out what other people do with their ITR rims. I guess I wanted to check to make sure that 205s will fit on my rims, and if it does, if anyone else have tried them out and see how it feels.
Thanks!

Came with the Wheels. I am not fans for Korean tires but I admit it handle pretty well for its price. This size made acceleration felt quicker due to smaller diameter.

Advan makes the Neova in 215/45/16. It's hard to find but shouldn't run more than $150 shipped per tire.
I feel your pain with the Michelins. It cost me $1171 to put the same tires on my Porsche back when I had it.

How do the Advan Neova rate compared to the tires on tire rack? Any way to find out?
Also, i'm guessing that it's better to keep the sidewall ratio of 45 than keeping the 215 width?
I can get 205/45/16 or 215/40/16 for the Eagle F1s. I'm guessing that it's better to stick with the 205/45/16s?
Thanks

I have used 205/45/16 on a set of 16x7" Buddy club rims, fit is good. Your rims are also 16x7" right?

I wondered how long it'd take before somebody asked why he wasn't considering Azenis in 215-45-16.
They do fine in the rain. It's when you aim at standing water that you discover that the tread pattern won't channel standing water.
Really, they're fine even in moderate rain...just stay out of standing and deep water.
You seem to be willing to consider narrower tread. I have the new Falken Ziex on my EP3 in 205-50-16, and they handle very well in the dry for an all weather tyre. You might want to consider these if you're after an everyday tyre. All Falkens are a lot of tyre for the money.

Hold up, so you're saying the JDM 16's are actually BETTER in acceleration than the USDM 15's ?? I always held back on swapping my 15's because I thought it would hurt my acceleration and 1/4 mile times. Can you please elaborate on this ??

205-50-16 causes the rev/mile to be diff by a little less than 3%. 205-45-16 keeps it within 1% diff so I'm probably going to want to stick with that...no?
I didn't know about Falken Azenis because I use tirerack.com to find out about tires. But looking at reviews for those tires and few of your guys' reaction about the tires in the rain, I prob won't get them. I live in a rainy rainy place (you can probably guess). And the roads are pretty bad here so there are grooves on the road (on freeways too) because few drive studded tires for the days that it snows (like today!). I have snow tires for days like these so I don't care about the snow traction for my perf tires (which btw, Blizzak kicks some serious ****!).
Anyhow, it seems like the Eagle F1s are rated the best in tirerack, and they are relatively cheaper. Since the idea size for my car is 210/45/16, which I can't get, I have to get either a 215 or a 205. I'll either gain, or lose 1% rev/mile. I'll prob just go for the 205s to save some money and not worry too much about the 1cm that I lose on the width...

The size of wheel does not determine acceleration/gearing. the Overall Diameter of the Tire does..
so.. if the 16" tire is shorter than the 15" it will net better accel, all weight/mass of the wheel and tire combo aside.

...and if you aren't and you avoid puddles and don't drive like a maniac, or if you live in Cali where it has only rained a handfull of times, then you're ok.
I personally don't like Kumho's at all. Azenis are ok, good tires if you're on a budget. S-03's are nice tires, but I think an excellent year-round tire is the AVS ES 100's.
Advans are my favorite though.

I think 205/50/16 is fine, and will net better acceleration. I have run both 215 and 205 (azenis) on my ITR and honestly there is no noticeable difference as far as overall grip.

Funny cause that's the site that I used to get the rev/mile info and what not.
It's quite useful.
So I guess with 205/50/16, the sidewell will be *slightly* bigger. Also, the odometer will be 3% off. I suppose that doesn't matter? I guess I'll be going a bit further (3 extra miles per 100 miles) than what the odometer reads huh?
If it fits in the wheel well, I suppose I should just get the 205/50/16 rather than the 205/45/16.

A positive side of going with 50 profile is a little more side wall flex, so you'll get less wheel hop during accelleration, and a slightly more comfy ride. I'm going with a set of Eagle F1's in 205/50 for myself next year instead of the 45 profile I had this year. Yes they are 2,7% larger than OEM size but that's a negligible difference, here in Norway we are limited to +/- 5% to stay legal. And 205/45 is a bit smaller than OEM also so it's a matter of compromise anyway, IMHO the 45's look a little small mounted on the car. Both tires will work fine.
Last question.
So, with my 215/45/16, the tires used to hit the wheel well a tad bit and squeaked when I pulled the steering wheel all the way to one of the sides.
With 205/50/16, does a similar problem exist? Or since it's a tad bit skinnier, it works fine?
Thanks!

I had the same problem w/215/45/16 there was slight rubbing @full lock.
The 205 *should* fine, seeing as it's about ~.5 inches shorter and ~10mm thinner.
