Default OT: Police Scanners?

Who had the police scanner mounted in their ITR? This is why I ask...

http://www.highpointelectronics.com/.../newpage16.htm

Just wondering if it would be worth the $$...

Thanks...

Just get V1 detector unless your street racer.

Friend of mine has one but he doesn't street race anymore or so he tells me and the only thing I've seen him do with it was listen in on cordless phone calls of the girls in his apt complex...which is federal offense if he gets caught one day.
Also can pick up cell phones as well if you know how to do it. or you can hack cellphone and you can turn it into a scanner but you didn't hear that from me.

Yeah, I have the step above that one (Bearcat 600) which tells you when the cops are near with the red flashing light. It doesn't always work well in all states (works great in CT, but never works in MA, etc.). I have a V1 to accompany my scanner, which is the cats meow. Works best with the concealed display kit. I just use my scanner mostly to listen in to other people while I'm waiting in the car to pick someone up

I just got my Bearcat BCT-7 in the mail last week and I love it. It does the same as the 600 with the flashing light, but it's an in dash unit with a hookup for an external antenna. It also tunes into other emergency channels and more. Onyx00 runs the same scanner and I think he gets really good range with his.

I think any info is at http://www.uniden.com

Yellow Submarine,
What setup do you use for the V1 concealed display kit? I bought it along with my V1, but then I realized that I didn't have much of a need for it, since I can clearly see the V1 on the dash anyway... (The V1 is big enough already - some flahsing lights won't make it that much more obvious...)

Jim

Scanner is really just added protection and depending on the state you are in it may or may not help. I have had great success with it in Arizona, and it has saved me many times. However, some states it won't do much since some police have switched to all digital networks, etc.

There are other uses as well for it, such as weather 24/7, and some other small things.

If you get one, the Uniden Bearcat BCT-7 is the way to go.

I agree it's no replacement for a radar detector. Nor is a radar detector any replacement for a brain...(i.e. be smart when you speed)

In many states it is ILLEGAL to have ANY device able to recieve and decode ANY police frequency in your vehicle, especially mounted!

Don't ask me how I know this! I just Do! especially in NY, NJ, and CT! So be careful guys.

I got my charges dropped but it is a serious infraction with a hefty fine.

If I were you and thought you needed a Police band scanner for whatever illegal use you wanted it for, IE: Bank Robbery, Auto or Home theft, Or just some silly Street races, I'd just get a hand held unit and a cigarette charger. Safer and you can toss it when you run.

Good Luck,

A.

typer1189,

I have my V1 professionally mounted under my passanger side visor, and my concealed display mounted between the tack and speedo on my dash. It makes it so much easier to tell where the cops are and how many because you don't really have to take your eyes off of the road to read it. It also makes for more stealth from the cops and theifs alike. Most people have them mounted to their windshield, which makes them visible and ugly.

They are NOT ILLEGAL IN MANY STATES. Probably illegal in 5 max!!! Go on http://www.google.com and search for "US scanner laws"

You will find lots of pages showing exactly what states have laws and what those laws are.

That sounds like a great setup! I can certainly understand why that would be a LOT better than mounting it on the windshield. Do you have any pictures of this setup? I'd love to do it on my car.

thanks,

Jim

Hmm, yeah, I'd like to see the setup.

Honestly if a cop is looking for a detector though he will know what to look for and where to look. Even Escorts SR-1 is easily noticable by cops and it is a fully custom installed system.

I dunno about that V1 setup... the unit has to be placed in a location where is antennae have the clearest shot of the road to pick up the Radar/Laser signals.

As ugly as it is, mine is in the middle of the windshield, just below the rearview mirror. Function over Form / Substance over Style.

You can have both functionality and stealth if you are creative about it. I'll post up some pics in a day or two (gotta go take em first)!
