205/45-16 R compounds safe to squeeze onto a 16x6?
I'm at a bit of a turning point right now. I want to start autocrossing seriously, because I can feel safe doing it with my daily driver, and I'm selling my project 240SX. I've thought about getting another project, but I don't know if it's feasible right now.
Problem: I don't want to modify the car in ways that'll make it uncomfortable. So into H Stock it goes, and stock 16x6 wheels are what I get to work with. The OEM tire size is 195/50-16, so the 205/55-16 R compounds are out. The only 16" size that won't mess with my tire height in a negative way is 205/45-16, and they all recommend a wheel at least 6.5" wide.
Other 2001-2003 Proteges have 15x6 wheels, but these are LX sedans, and I don't think 15x6 wheels would be allowed for me since my car is fairly different (rear discs, 5 lug hubs, factory front strut bar, hatchback body style).
