Mugen thermostat gone bad ??
I have a Mugen thermostat in my ITR that has been installed for about 20K miles. Yesterday, my car's temperature was rising above what is normal so I took it to the dealer. They tell me that the problem is that the t-stat has gone bad. How can I tell if, in fact, my problem is the thermostat ??
It is worth mentioning that last week I ran the car with too little coolant and the temp did rise above normal but not as high as the max on the indicator gauge. The coolant problem was resolved that same day. Could this have messed up the thermostat ??

Air may have gone in when coolant was low. Bleed the coolant using that little bleeder plug on block. Try soemthing free first before you let the dealer touch it or spend money.

Sounds like its is possibly the thermostat, sucks that a Mugen one went out so quick.

Well, I did bleed the sistem last week when the car ran low on coolant. Actually, bleed, flush, and refill with new fluid. I would have thought the car would run cold if the t-stat died ?? Anyway, the guy at the dealer is taking care of it under warranty (apparently, he could not tell the difference between the Mugen t-stat and the OEM part) so I'm still not dishing out cash for this ..
if you dont have the mugen switch, then how is the thermostat supposed to open earlier? if i were you i would have bought the mugen switch with it as this is how it is supposed to be purchased and installed.. i have both in my b18c swapped ek and have never had any problems... car doesnt get warm very well though

You don't need to use both the fan switch and thermostat together -- they work independently of each other, and some say the car will run too cold using both in a street car. The only way the thermostat will open earlier is if the fan switch is NOT used.

since you guys are on this topic..may i know if there would be a problem using
say a spoon thermostat and a mugen fan switch + a spoon rad cap combination?
i was told that the spoon and mugen fan switch are the same..anyone to confirm this...and i was thinking of going to that setup coz the mugen fan switch is cheaper and the spoon thermostat opens earlier...so what do you guys think, before i make the purchase..thx
