WDCR SPU Class No more....
Just rec'd word that the MARRS and 12 hours at the point class of SPU & SPO have been nixed for this year.
Also, does anyone have a copy of the Honda-Michelin Challenge rules? I was attempting to run ITE under these rules.

Do you mean Honda Michelin Challenge that ran in Canada from 1976 to 1992? I have one of these cars (a 1988). The 88-91 ran with 92 hp and the 92 ran with 102 hp, all 1.5 liters. The cars had full interior as well. Not exactly a rocket. I have more info if you need ad we're talking about the same series:

Vince,
There are quite a few of the HM cars out here in Vancouver also, and a lot of people have got their start in those cars from back then until now! I never had a chance to race them but I watched a few at Westwood back in the day...It still gives me shivers, what a great series. I would love to see that happen again!
Victor in Vancouver

I was probably standing right there with you, Victor - or sitting in the stands at the hairpin drinking a Blue out of the cooler...
That WAS a great series. The cars were about as quick at Seattle as ITB cars were at the time, the one year that they ran there.

EDIT - those of you who have asked about ITE in the past, take note of the trap that is being negotiated here: In WDC Region, you have to invoke old series rules to run ITE rather than building something from scratch that "looks like" an IT car but isn't classified...

I wonder if WDCR cut SPU and SPO so they could limit car counts a bit? If what they are doing is forcing any cars that show to have been built to somebody's (HC, World Challenge, Grand Am Cup?) rules then maybe its not a bad move. Perhaps they realize that someone could show up with a badass car (like a suped up Poopra or Evo or something) and take the overall win.

Probably it's due to very low subscription numbers the past few years:
SPU:
2003: one car w/ enough races to gain points. (6+ races)
2002: no cars w/ enough races to gain points. (6+ races)
2001: same
SPO:
2003: no cars
2002: one car
2001: no cars
You wouldn't be limiting car counts that much by killing SPO/SPU.

The well informed have spoken
You know, I think I'm paranoid. I think that a lot of the racing ideas I've had have already been thought of and lots of other people have done it or are doing it. For instance, I figure it would be relatively easy for someone to build an SPU/SPO car that could win the 12 hour overall but I guess its just not something many people are inclined to do *shrugs*. Oh well, there's goes one scheme down the drain.

It could be argued that WDCR isn't hurting for entries in the "real" classes so what do they car about catch-alls? I would tend to think that way since I *generally* believe that fewer classes are better.

Nice, NO SPU or SPO. So anyone wanting to run their H1-H5 car will have to try to fit into a IT class. But wait there's more, if you dont fit into a IT class you can try to make your car legal for ITE (WDCR has there own ITE rules), and race against Porsche 993's, Corvette's, Panoz. That seems really F*&cking fun. SPO and SPU should have replaced ITE, at least you have rules for these two classes. This is some BS. I like to know what idiots thought this up and kept the outdated ITE class.
SPU is classed for the 12 Hours of Homestead in April...I'll be running the EP Del Sol (hopefully).....We did it last year and it was a blast, great time of year to be in Miami...as for beating the SRF's for the overall...really gotta get lucky and have nothing go wrong...
