Default spun a crank bearing??

On ebay theyre sellng aN R and per the seller he spun a bearing. He drove it one day and spun a bearing.. Whatever..

Question is, doesnt one need to remove the block to see if the bearings are spun?? Or is there any other sign of spun bearings? I know some of you guys have spun some bearings. Id like to know how youd go about knowing you spun a bearing. Thanks...

First off it sounds really bad when the car is running. But to check the crank, remove the oil pan, and splash shield, then take off the crank and rod bearing caps. That will let you see the damage if any. It mighht look good but run your fingernail across the area and you WILL feel a bad area easily. Also, if the crank is damaged, toss it, it's not worth fixing.

Good luck,

A spun bearing can be diagnosed by letting the car idle, and let it run.
While it is idling, remove the spark plug wire from cylinder one. Still making clicking noise? Put the wire back in. Go on to the next wire. Continue through all 4 until the noise quiets down considerably. A cylinder with a spun bearing does not make noise when it has no spark.

By the way, you gotta be a real DUMB *** to spin a main bearing. I have NEVER heard of a main bearing that spun. Either someone built it extremely loose, someone had the crank micropolished about fifty times, or someone went from 5th to 2nd on the highway at 120mph. But even so, you'd spin a rod bearing before a main bearing. Man....
