What is the highest HP a N/A B18c5 can give?
Well...some guy who runs our local SCCA SoloII event was talking about knowing someone that tuned a B18C5 to a whopping 600HP (crank I think) Naturally Aspirated...People ask him how is that possible, he said the magic is by raising the CR as high as you can. He said that someone he knew runs such an engine in his hybird.
Is this all crap and BS? But this guy...respectfully, is been around SCCA for at least 20-30 years. Unless he's some 40 years old ricer.....

BULLSHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yo 600hp N/A from 1.8 litre?! hahahahaha That means he has 333.33 hp per litre! He will stay in the book of records!

Just look at Formula 1 engines. They have a displacement of 3 L (NA) and they produce about 850 HP. That is 283 HP/L. With an 1.8 you can get 1.8 * 283 = 510 HP theoretically when using F1 technology. But that's not very easy to do!!!!
Being that octane isn't combustable, and you need more and more when raising compression, there has to be a break even point where raising compression won't net any more gains.
I would guess that with even with 15:1 compression the R would only be putting out 220 hp at the crank.

just to add to the BS theme, 'l natural(or whatever they are called) has the fastest all motor honda(in the 10's) and they use a h22 closed deck motor(not the vtec I believe) I thought only the h23's were closed deck though? anyway....
anyway, they are not putting anything over 400 to the crank an that is optimistic...more like 300. and that is like 2.5 liters.
that kind of puts things in perspective...there is no possible way right now that a b18 of any kind will out down anything close to 600hp.
keep in mind 'l natural has PROFFESIONALS AND MONEY also

Well, Jeff (Lip) had about 240+ to the wheels NA, and I don't think his compression was that high... But dunno about the fuel he was running though...
The trick of getting more HP out of a small engine is to let it rev real high (16000 rpm and higher) while still generating torque... For this kind of revs you need big bore/short stroke pistons, pneumatic valve actuators (instead of valve springs), fast ignition system, very fast/accurate injectors, huge valve lift, valve overlap and more......

13.2 isn't too high... for static compression ratios are meaning less and less. Info: http://www.theoldone.com
I mean, 12.5 rollerwaves are being used on daily drivers with pump gas...
Thanks for the info on Jeff's car, but I'd rather hear it from the horses mouth.

horse says 13:1 rollerwaves with head cleaned up and clover leaf combustion chamber. its at least 13.2:1
i race with anywhere from 112-116 octane. If i'm able to get the VP C16..thats my preference. I honestly don't know what octane its "OK" for me to run...i use what works best at the track. Its not that i can't use some Sunoco high test....i just haven't had the need to. With the DFI thats in the car...i'd bet we can use regular pump gas just not get the power potential out of the motor thats all.

Before my **** went kaboom, I was running 13.1:1 on 93 octane, but I was only at 12 degrees ignition timing. It didn't detonate at all unless I advanced it past 14 degrees. Only when I would start it up would it go "ka-klink".
13.1:1 is do-able with proper tuning. Sure, more ignition advance would be nice because at 12 degrees it was kinda sluggish. Higher octane is recommended, but not 100% necessary.
My friend here in town has CTR pistons in a LS/VTEC w/ 15 thou shaved off his ITR head. No detonation at all. If baffles me. He is running 17 degrees timing and it runs like a champ. I have never heard it detonate once.

i about crapped my pants when i saw this...omg..he must be at 13:1 at least? any one ever tried methonal in a honda all motor?
