Last year the rules allowed chassis builders to utilize a center driving position. However, the 25-1E spec doesn't make a provision for center drive because it was originally designated for prostock. Prostock is obviously rear wheel drive and has a driveline in the center of the car. NHRA wasn't interested in working with SFI to develop a chassis spec dedicated and designed specifically for fwd...so, they changed the rule. No center driving position allowed in 2004.
Thats a damn shame. I mean I see this being the norm (rados design) in about 5 years with those huge tires. And to optimize viewing the driver would need to be in the center. I think nhra should at least keep it in mind when rados lays the smack down next year in NDRA.-pdang

Tony. Got a couple of questions... And not trying to hate, just curious.. Where is the starting going? How much travel does the front end have? It doesn't look like much. It doesn't look like it is going to be very friendly to work on, especially if the motor and or trans has to come out.
The starter is going in front of the motor and there's 2.5" of travel in the front. We've worked alot with Mike Duffy and Jerry Bickel on the 4 link setup and both of them say that when it's setup right, the rear end shouldn't move hardly at all. As for working on it, the trans side is a bitch, but the motor will come in and out easily. It's definitely not easy to package the solid axle and 4 link setup, but we feel that it will be well worth the trouble. On top of that, the trans, ring and pinion, and axles are pretty much foolproof, I don't see us breaking anything there. I know that anything can break, but we're plenty overbuilt in the drivetrain dept.
