Out the door price on a Type-S in So Cal?
I've just been told by my insurance company that my Base RSX has been declared a total loss, so I intend to replace it with a Type-S. Anyways, I'm curious about the going price these days, especially here in the LA/OC area. By the way, I paid $20,100 OTD for my Base RSX over at Weir Canyon Acura. Unfortunately the sales manager who sold me the car is no longer working for them...
according to edmunds.com invoice price (including destination charge) for the rsx type s is $21,806. i usually let the dealer know that i know what the invoice price is and offer them $500 over that and don't budge (unless the car is really popular and in short supply) - tell them you only have 30 minutes and keep reminding them. walk out if you have to... they'll call you back. good luck.

i paid about the same as vengeance

well, rsx 04 type s should be around 24 otd. better if u buy the old ones like 02 or 03 because it's the same car. it will bring down 2-4 grand.

Here's my advice on buying a car... The base MSRP is $23,320 as of right now on Acura.com. But as a buyer, you should never have to pay that much otherwise you will be ripped off... The price off of Edmunds right now is $21,261... That is a good price for it so that is where you start... You go to a dealer, offer them to pay it at the Edmunds suggested price, tell them to write it down on paper for you, that they are willing to sell it to you at this price. DO NOT negotiate your price when buying a car, these guys will try whatever they can to suck the **** out of your wallet. So, ask for them to write the price down on paper, if they cant do it, then just leave and say youre not interested... Remember, they need you, you dont need them. Once they have it down on paper, you tell them that youll think about it and leave. You take this price and go to another Acura dealer, and show to them that they are offering you the same car for this price, then tell them if they can do a better job in offering a lower price... Do this until you get the lowest price possible. When you get the lowest price, go home and do all the interest rates, APR, by yourself, at the rate that YOU WANT TO PAY, next day go to them with a deal, say that you are willing to pay this much for the car, and this much for everything else... They will tell you all these bullshit about oh we cant do this, we cant do that, and they will go say "Ill brb, Ill go speak with my manager, etc" thats all BS... they are willing to bend their prices to sell you their car, so they WILL DO IT. BE FIRM ON YOUR PRICE, and for no circumstances should you negotiate, unless for the better. Too many people these days are getting ripped off cuz they dont know that to do when it comes to buying a car, and a dealer sees that, and they take advantage of it, and Ive seen this many times. I got a friend that just bought a brand new IS300. He brought his dad, and three of his uncles with him, and **** they bargained... They were at it for 4 hours, of just pure bargaining, and they end up getting the car for $27,000 dollars FLAT, thats including tax and everything else, instead of the MSRP of $29,435. Well, hope you get something out of this...
Another thing you can do is once you get the lowest pricest from one dealer, try calling other places because they will most likely match or even beat that price. Make sure they have the car you want in the lot, there's not much room for negotiating when the car isn't there or in short supply.
I have been to four dealers in SoCal recently to price the 04 RSX-S. I did just as written above, and found that $21,800 is factory invoice for the 04. Any dealer should give you the car at that price. In trying to get that written quote beat, Weir Canyon did just that coming in at $21,000. The previous dealer said that was below factory invoice, and they could not beat that. I doubt you'll find a better deal then that, so you might want to go back to Weir. Also, don't forget to add TTL to that price to get your total out the door cost.
Good luck, and let us know what you find out

Oh god. This totally reminds me of my days working at the dealerships. Damn you people with invoice. Cheap bastards, everyone has to get paid. Ha.
Best way goto a dealership that doesn't move that many cars out. They'll be desparate to sell a car. Waste a lot of the time. The whole deal is, don't act like ur are shopping for price, don't come in talking about i will pay invoice. Don't talk about price be interested the car, a lot and make it seem like your really interested and your gonna buy today. Negoiate price when u sit down at the table. (real salesman don't talk about price on the lot only inside, notice they will always say something to avoid the question) They will most likely avoid dealing off the mrsp price, they'll go with payments to try to throw you off or if their taking a loss they'll try to switch you to a lease..lol cause not everyone knows how a lease works off the top of your head. But yea if you did it right..like spend a lot of time before you negoiate, got involved with the sales man and he felt that you weren't jacking around, mostly likely, they won't let you walk out the door after spending all that time with you. Don't make it seem like thats what you want to pay but you can't do it, its not going to work. They know what you can afford or not, thats why you fill out a credit app first before you negoiate. Thats a no no for a lot of dealerships, most dealerships won't negoiate without running credit first, cause they won't take u seriously, but if you can pull it off, it might help you cause u can make it seem like your on a tight budget. Oh when the manager comes in, he's considered a "closer." They'll send him if your salesman is weak and can't get anywhere with you or he'll get sent in when they know they have a deal and he pretty much comes ins to "bump" you for more money.
Oh one more thing, get involved with the salesmen. Try to start the conversations, pretty much talk alot mostly about the car but try not to sway off topic or talk about price, just talk a lot don't let it where he's going to have to ask you questions to get you to start talking. Thats how we usually tell, people who didn't talk much were usually jacking around on the lot or we knew they were just waiting to get inside to negoiate.

That's not necessarily the best way to go. Contact an internet salesman and let them give you the offer. Sometimes it is lower than invoice. We bought 1 new car at 2k below invoice, and another for 500 below invoice. These are not cars that have been test driven or have sat around either.

No talking to car monkies that don't know anything about the cars they carry. Just get a price quote. If you like the deal they offer, walk in, buy, leave.
