Painting question
I'm trying to paint this fender red (its primer black, I bought it on ebay) but I'm have a lot of problems as this is my first time. I have a paint gun and air compressor, and am spraying at 40psi. I am spraying single stage paint. Here is the history:
I dialed the gun it to a pretty good setting I think and wiped off the fender with acetone and a tack cloth, and the first time I tried to just get it all painted in a few layers (without waiting much inbetween) spraying about 6 - 8 inches away. Well, it sagged like crazy and becuase I have so much other **** to sand, I just decided to use acetone and whipe it clean and try again the next day.
So today I try again, thinking that if I just spray on a little bit of red ont his coat, and then the rest another day I wont need to layt it on as thick (as the surface im covering won't be solid black). So I go into the booth, and paint it from about 8 inches but low and behold I get a drip line (I think I may have stopped there and started again, and thats why) so I spray from farther back (like 15 inches or so) so the coats are really light. Its kinda orange peely, but I figure the final coat will fill that.
So wtf am I doing wrong? Someone give me some tips on how to make this paint look nice!
