Default Tranny or clutch problem?

For the past month now whenever I downshift from any gear I really have to force it in and my trany also has a bit of a grind while shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear. Is it my tranny or is my clutch slipping?

could be a combination....but the grind should be coming from a bad synchro maybe?

try changing the tranny fluid...gm synchromesh friction modified is supposed to get rid of most grinds

the grind from 2-3 only is probably the syncro.

The rest is probably your clutch and or tranny.

the grind isn't necessarily the synchro....it may be that the clutch isn't properly adjusted, the clutch is bad, fluid is bad/low/old/wrong kind, OR the synchros. But, since it's harder to get in gear otherwise, it's not the 3rd synchro thats your problem.

I would change fluid, and adjust clutch pedal.

If pedal is too sloppy, and engages the clutch really low, then when the clutch pedal is fully depressed, it doesn't mean the clutch is fully disengaged

It would really be nice if we knew what tranny your talking about.

For all we know it could be a Nissan tranny.

I'll guess SOHC hydro tranny, go with the broken 1-2 shifter fork for $60.

Can I have a clue?

Maybe the tranny just doesn't have enough fluid?
BTW, how's the clutch pedal engagement feel? Nominal?
..er..the disengagement point rather.

Broken 1-2 shifter fork or worn motor mounts, VERY common.

Clutch may not be fully disengaging.

motor mounts could be getting old as well:

your motor moves around a lot when you shift. If your mounts are old or torn up, when you downshift fast it could move around and cause a small grind. I was thinking about getting energy suspension inserts to help- i have a grind when I shift fast into 3rd from a high rpm in 2nd, and I'm hoping that will help.

Honda synchros notoriously suck *** so theres a pretty good chance your problem starts with them as well.
