Engine not responding to throttle properly (Idle issue)
Hey, I searched and found a couple of leads as to the cause of my problem. It seems to point to the IACV.
I have an 89 DX (DPFI) I cant find any instructions on diagnosing this valve, or anything else. The available shop manuals only talk about MPFI.
There seems to be 2 vacume controlled diaphragms on the TB but I have no clue what they do or how they should react....1 is really easy to move.
Can someone give me any leads?
Problem (if you care to read):Engine idle is fucked, it will idle at 1800 cold, if I hit the gas it will go up and idle higher...sometiems dropping after a long period of time. If I drive it the rpms tend to "stick" when I clutch in....sometimes will end up idling as high as 3500 rpm. (while the clutch is pressed). I can drive it in first without hitting the gas when the engine is at operating temp (no dive forward when I let off) the sometimes it will suddendly dive (idle gooing back to normal I guess) and then pick right back up giving a rocking. This usually happens but at maybe 800 rpm on a normal car, and the rocking isnt that violent....mine happens at maybe 1800 rpm and is violent enough to actally hurt....kida like flooring in 1st then letting off florring letting off. The idle isnt stable either, will sometimes fluctuate between 2000-1500, with some gas it goes up and doesnt settle right away. I have also noticed a definate lag in the time the car takes to "take" gas at lower rpms.
Also wondering if this could be caused by my recent addition of a short ram intake on the car....maybe I need to adjust the idle

i would start with two things.
1. Check and see if your throttle body is sticking. ( actuate it by hand and watch )
2. Check for a possible vacuum leak.
I had a sticking t-body and had troble with idle type problems untill i cleaned it out.

I would check 2 things, iacv and your throttle cable. With the DX's that Ive worked on the throttle cables are kinda touchy. The iacv can be bad w/out throwing a cel. Good luck!!
Thanks guys, do you have any clue where I can find a shop manual or just a pic explaining what is what on that TB???
I know it could be related to the IACV, but I have no clue where it is. Therea are 2 vacume controlled diaphragms, one is close to the throttle linkage, the other acutates another butterfly inside the TB (I can move this one by hand when the engine is at vacume)
As for cleaning the TB....any clues on how I would go about that...withouth knowing how this ******* fuel injected carburator works I really have no clue where to start.
