What head can i put on my d16 si motor for more power, MINI ME SWAP????
I was wondering what heads i can swap with my stock d16 si motor, i heard on these forums about a MINI ME swap, i dont know what head they used, if anyone has ideas on how to upgrade my d16 that would be great. I also heard you can use a SOHC zc motor head, im not sure, i just dont want to **** up my motor, help from a person who knows what there doing would be much appriecitated, thanks.
A "mini me" usually refers to a D15 block with either a D16Z6 (92-95 Civic Si) or D16Y8 (96-00 Civic EX) head. But a D16A6 will definitely benefit from the same treatment. any SOHC D-series head will fit your engine. Most of the SOHC VTEC ZCs are basically a Japanese version of the D16Z6.
As far as which one is the best... that one's open for debate. I've heard that the D16Z6 has better flow characteristics than the Y8, but have no personal experience with either one.
Another option is to just build your current head. A good port/polish, a more aggressive cam, and a thinner (D16Y8) head gasket make for some really nice power gains without the need for figuring out some kind of VTEC trigger.

A VTEC head swap is not necesarily the easiest way to get more power. You have to consider there are other things involved in doing this such as different Distributor, rewiring for VTEC, Different intake manifold to utilize the increased flow and other little things.
Look into working on the Current head you have now. there can be alot of power you can get out of the non-vtec head through port and polishd and some cams.

Yeah, you would definetly feel it,especially with the Si or ZC trans...I've heard the D16Z6 or D16Y8 head can give 25-30 HP,which seems about right if you're engine is in good shape and you have I/H/E.I'd use the Y8 head becasue the dizzy bolts right up.That and the thinner Y8 gasket would be a nice mini me conversion I think.
ive got the d16a6 w/ d16y8 head and its real nice , its nice being able to stop on the other single cams. exspecially luke (if ur readin this). punk-***. yea.

I would say to just get an exospeed cam, and valve train work. You'll get just as much power, but you wont have vtec... So what.
In a way I really wicsh I just got an A6 with some top end work, that way I would be in a decent class in my auto Xs, But now I have to run with moded Z06 vetts
