Default question about mufflers.

Well after driving up to Tennessee from Florida for a visit, I have decided that it's time to get a quieter muffler. Right now I have 2.25" mandrel bent pipe with a resonator(unsure about size), with just a no-name canister style muffler. I am in Murfreesboro and there are two shops around that sell Magnaflow, so here is my question. Will the Magnaflow oval style muffler be quieter than what I already have? Thanks for any helpful input.

my guess would be yes, since magnaflow is a good quality product...the ones that my friends got are pretty quiet.....as long as you don't get the "race series" muffler...they'reway too loud imo..

goodluck finding what you want!

I already have a good cat-back though, just the muffler was a no-name, and it's really loud inside the car. The sound is perfect (deep) from the outside, but I will sacrifice some of that to get it more quiet inside. I was referring the the regular Magnaflow oval muffler, not race series.

No, it will be louder. The magnaflows are quality pieces, but they are straight through designs. Straight through is louder than chambered... btw, I had a magnaflow cat-back. It was loud. I got rid of it and got an rsr ex-mag.

4x9 oval is just as loud as the 6x6 canisters. Trust me, I talked to a number of exhaust vendors about this because I was looking for a replacement for my magnaflow 6x6. Ended up getting rid of the whole exhaust.

es oval is straight thru.

straight thru is not quiet.

If you want quiet, then you basically have to go with a chambered exhaust. I've heard good things about the dynomax mufflers, but don't have any first hand experience with them.

hahah...funny you mention that , my buddy had to get a new exhaust for his hb., and his parents got him a dynomax axelback from Canadian Tire (i'm from Canada), for xmas 2 yrs ago cause it was cheaper than the oem from honda, and it was awesome....we loved it!!!...it had a great sound at wot and was never even close to buzzy, only deep...and at idle you couldn't tell the car was on...and the best part was it was only....$119 CDN.........check it out if you can!!

look into the tanabe hyper medallion, or the apexi world sport. The reason they are quieter is cause they are chambered. Greddy is pretty quiet for being straight through.
